997 C4S Engine Coolant
I would like to have your opinions and experiences on different engine coolants. I know most people suggest the OEM coolant which can be sourced by Audi dealers as well but I was thinking of something better than that.

Why do you think there is something better?

But he wants to know if there is anything "better". I agree with you if OP is thinking lower price = better.

Sorry to be slightly off topic but every Porsche service department I have asked over the years said that the coolant used in a 997 is permanent. Has anyone viewing this thread experienced cooling system problems with their high mileage 997 by not replacing the factory coolant?

The 997 uses organic acid technology (OAT) antifreeze. Certainly, the Porsche brand coolant is the best choice. Zerex DexCool seems to be a very good alternative (better than any of the other brands of DexCool like Prestone or Peak Global). Zerex DexCool is an OAT antifreeze and it contains no silicates, phosphates, borates, nitrates or amines (like the Porsche brand coolant). And it costs less than $15 / gallon.

This seems like a discussion about what is better bottled water. If the chemical formula is sufficient, like OEM, there isn't any magic pixie dust that can be added by other brands. Only the price is a variable, and the name on and look of the container it comes in. But hey, its like gasoline, engine oil, and pretty much everything else in the car aftermarket... they will see things by claiming this or that difference that may well in the end provide nothing worthwhile. If it makes you happy, look for better coolant.
