PASM kicks in too aggressively on the track, and you end up fighting for control with it when driving at the limit. I usually turn it off unless the track is wet.

PASM or PSM?

PASM is the suspension management and it doesn't turn off. It's either hard or soft. PSM is the traction control and I've never turned it off. The car will still let you have fun, especially in sport mode, but it will help you from flying off end first into a wall.

Haha

I read the 1st 3 posts and was thinking the same thing. They must be talking about PSM.

I stand corrected, I did mean traction control and whatever else is tied in with that.

Jonhunt is infamous around these parts
I attended the Brumos Porsche Driving Experience recently and we were instructed to turn it off while doing the figure eight in which the goal was to maintain a constant radius with the steering wheel and control direction with the throttle...always just on the edge of losing traction.

I attended the Porsche Sport Driving School. PSM was always on. In sport mode, the intervention is perfect. You should have not problem getting a 997 moderately sideways before it kicks in. Unlike a BMW, which turns itself on every time you stand on the pedal! Seriously, the intervention on the PSM system is really great, test your limits with it on first before you turn it off.

If you rely on it, maybe, but for people who are used to cars without all the electronics and catch slides with their right foot and opposite lock, you end up feeling like the car intervenes too early and fights your inputs to deal with the slide.

as with most other system tweaks to the 997 over the years i'm assuming porsche has upgraded the PSM module/software/limits since my '06 but i need to have it off when at the track - too invasive.

I always leave PSM on in my 997 street car, even when I track it. My race car has no PSM, and that is enough fun for me.

If you leave PSM on at the track be prepared to spend a bit more on brake pads, rears in my case. I typically turn it off on a dry track. If you are on a wet track I'd leave PSM on. I got pretty loose at Mid-Ohio in the rain a couple years ago and PSM kept me on the track.

You cannot turn it off. Its the type of suspension you have. If you want, you can uninstall it and put in different shocks.
