PASM or PSM?
PASM is the suspension management and it doesn't turn off. It's either hard or soft. PSM is the traction control and I've never turned it off. The car will still let you have fun, especially in sport mode, but it will help you from flying off end first into a wall.

I read the 1st 3 posts and was thinking the same thing. They must be talking about PSM.

I attended the Brumos Porsche Driving Experience recently and we were instructed to turn it off while doing the figure eight in which the goal was to maintain a constant radius with the steering wheel and control direction with the throttle...always just on the edge of losing traction.

I attended the Porsche Sport Driving School. PSM was always on. In sport mode, the intervention is perfect. You should have not problem getting a 997 moderately sideways before it kicks in. Unlike a BMW, which turns itself on every time you stand on the pedal! Seriously, the intervention on the PSM system is really great, test your limits with it on first before you turn it off.

If you leave PSM on at the track be prepared to spend a bit more on brake pads, rears in my case. I typically turn it off on a dry track. If you are on a wet track I'd leave PSM on. I got pretty loose at Mid-Ohio in the rain a couple years ago and PSM kept me on the track.

You cannot turn it off. Its the type of suspension you have. If you want, you can uninstall it and put in different shocks.
