Keep it Classic or not?

Before I bought my 997, I was looking for a nice 911 classic air cooled, and after searching I found that many of the cars of that time (era) they have been abused and upgraded to newer version (turbo looks, whale tails, wide body kits, slang nose etc), almost all the sealers try to argue the good looks of they're cars, but being sincere the look awful and for me they destroyed all that classic look that is very difficult to maintain in most of the brands, for us P owners we still have that special classic thing!! For that I am undecided to upgrade moods to my car, for example looking into this great forum, most of you make moods into your cars and in my opinion look great, but some others they donīt, what will be on those they look great now, how time is going treat them?, do you think carbon fiber (rice look) is going to look in 20 years from now, or those with orange hoods and big spoilers!! I think they will say "what they where thinking about".

Mine is a 997.1 original rear clear light and in the front, do I upgrade to leds, do I change my wheels to 20" on concave wheels, or do I stick with the original ones. My cars looks beautiful she is gorgeous its a Porsche do we really have to modify something on our cars develop by the best engineers in the world. I think I will prefer to stick to classic, maybe time will tell like so far and in this case, I will save some money for track days on tires and brakes.

what do you think?

Personally I like the car just the way it look from factory. I would (and will shortly) upgrade the light (just as you did) to LED, all the "mods" i want to do are no changing the way the car looks (most are functional, Add Bluetooth, clear light markers, etc).

I got the classic 5 spoke wheels, and I think the car looks just perfect.

Having switched to 20" wheels and lowering the stance a bit more, I now like the classic look and I'm going to keep it that way - no GT3 look, no spoilers other than what mine came with. I did, however, replace all the lights (interior/exterior/engine compartment/trunk) to LED including upgrading the headlamps to 6k.

I had also planned on getting the TPC turbo, but I have been strongly advised (only asking for problems in the near future) against doing so given I have 93K miles on the car.

I love the lines as they are and of course the stance

I agree, my mods will be easy to convert back and I will absolutely maintain the Classic look. I am doing an exhaust, I think it is the only thing on the stock 997.2 that needs to be addressed. I am keeping my old Mufflers as well to put it back to stock.

I vote for very minor mods if any... mostly functional type things that are small and not very noticeable... you ask about 20 inch wheels,, I say no, 19 s at most. I agree the exhaust needs a little work.

In your case apt1to911 is to much for me, yes OEM is the way to go never less there are to much moods for me, is exactly what I saw on those air cooled cars, the used to be for example a 911 T, 1973, that they built a turbo look wide body kit, 930 wheels and tail but under the skin still a 2.2 engine regular seats, steering wheel, gear box and is a complete mess that poor car. By time passes it doesn't get we'll with all those moods in my opinion, when I saw those cars I always end up saying why they don't leave the car just the way it was, a beautiful 911 T 1973!! IMHO

Time and time again people spend huge amounts of money on mods. It might be a short emotional purchase resulting in an immediate gratification. However, most people are not going to pay you close to what you paid for those mods when you sell or trade your car in. It's like a house keep clean and simple. If people want to do changes they will. But to think what the next buyer will or will not like is a very expensive gamble. In some cases mods can actually turn of people from your car. Sure they will say it looks good and in most cases it does. But are they willing to pay for it. Mostly no. But if they don't give you an offer or don't buy your car I am pretty sure the mods were one of the main factors. Again, like real estate people are very emotionally attached to their homes. It takes a while to realize your home is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. The only thing I mod is exhausts and wheels. In all cases both are very suited to the car. I never have any expectations that some is going to pay much extra than they would have if the car was left stock.

It depends, you can easily transform the car into something aggressive and stunning by switching the wheels up.

CALGUY you are completely right, no one is going to pay what you spend on mods.

After that said, is more than convincing for me that I should stick with an almost original car look, in this case I will spend less money and maybe if I keep my car for many years from now (that was always my goal, give my car to my son) It will be easy to sale if he wants to do that, or just drive around in a beautiful 911 C4S with an original look!!
