Accelerating on snow - rear to the right?

Hi! I have a 2007 C2 and have just moved to Michigan.
Love the car on snow - with winter tires!

Today, though, I did notice that if I try to accelerate hard on snow/ice, the rear always seem to want to slip to the right.

Is this normal?
Why not the left?
A problem??

I'd appreciate any advise...

Could be the cross section of the road angled toward the edge. Try it in the oncoming lane (without any traffic of course) or on a flat parking lot.

All USA 997 C2 and C2S' do not come with a LSD. Since you're inquiring I'm gonna assume you didnt replace the standard diff with a LSD. The short answer is, a standard differential starts by sending power equally to both wheels and tends to send power to the wheel that is under the least resistance when pushed (so to speak), so a wheel that has lost traction (or loses traction more easily) spins more freely.

How this applies to you. All things being equal (ground, road angle, etc), due to the rotation of your driveshaft, the right (passenger) side of the axle lifts slightly under harder acceleration releasing traction to that side. Like I said, a standard differential will always send power to the wheel with the least rolling resistance, in your case the right wheel, causing it to spin more, causing you to lose more traction on that side and move accordingly.

This being said, limited slip differentials are "limited slip" for a reason. While they work to automatically reduce the spin on a wheel that has lost traction and revert additional power to the wheel with more traction, reducing slip, you still "slip".

Here's an example of a pro stock drag racer that still moves laterally under extremely hard acceleration.

It's the second car shown at 20 seconds.

All in all, it's totally normal. lol!

Wow. Great responses! Thanks!
Makes me feel better that nothing is necessarily broken.
I'll keep on testing on different roads to see how the car behaves.
