Okay so im basically just looking for some information or where to go to get it. Im just wondering about 997 and 911's. Are they the same? Like I have a 2007 carrera 911 4s. Is that a 997 or what exactly is a 997? Also I see 997.1 and 997.2 what is that? Id love to learn or watch a video that would give me info on the difference on porsche cars. Thanks for any information given.

 

A 997 is a 911. The 997 refers to the chassis designation. A 997.1 is from 2005-2008, a 997.2 is from 2009 - 2012 and some 2013 models. The big difference is the engine and a few cosmetic changes...chassis is the same.

 

so technically speaking my car is a "2007 porsche 997.1 911 c4s"?

Lol cool man thanks. Probably sound like an idiot asking something so simple but you can only learn if you ask haha. So is the 991 a 911 just changed the name or no?

 

991 is the next generation/design of the 911 model

 

911 will live forever!! So the changes are designated by diffrent codes ( the rhyme or reason for the diffrent code numbers is a mystery to me. (997 to 991) ????

The first Porsche model had the number 356 and Porsche used triple digit numbers for the internal model designations quite randomly. Since the introduction of the 911 (which initially was the 901) every Porsche has an internal number which starts with 9xx. Please note that this includes race cars like the 917, 956, etc. (which very nicely proves that Porsche thinks of street cars as members of the race car family and vice versa). With the introduction of the Boxster/Cayman the numbering scheme added a nice twist: the Boxster/Cayman always had a number that was 10 less than the Carrera, example: 996/986, 997/987, 991/981. I am not sure how many numbers and number pairs like this are still available in the Porsche numbering scheme...

Can't improve on what's already been posted but the more you get into Porsche naming the more complicated it ges. What you have read here is the tip of a huge iceburg. Anyway, just noticed where you are from. We don't get a lot of guys from Moose Jaw Saskatchewan on this site. In fact, I beleive you're the only one. How active is the Porsche community in Moose Jaw ?

 

Huge Porsche community, but they are all Porsche Tractors.

 

NorthVan said it best lol. I think im the only porsche 911 in Moose Jaw. There is a porsche boxster I see from time to time. Its safe to say when im not avoiding pot holes in the roads, I defenetly see alot of heads turning!!
