Hoping to get some help on a couple of items on my wife's 96 C4S. 16.5K daily driver with no mod's.

I had a CEL the other day that seemed to clear itself in 3-4 days. Maybe loose gas cap? I was going to take it in today to check the code but the CEL was gone. She left it out of gas and the fuel light was on. Filled up and when I went to start it I got a service reminder that said something like "service in 30 days" and their was a wrench logo.

She had an 07 C2 before but I never saw a service code. Is this something that was '06 and back or did I have adequate service and the dealer re-setting the system?

We bought it 18 months ago from a collector in TX, had about 4.5K miles and I added 1.5 on the trip back to SoCal. He had it serviced before we picked it up. Has 16.5K today.

Can you guys tell me is there an issue or is this just a time reminder?

Also, was it just coincidental that the CEL was on, then cleared and the service message came on?

the "service in 30 days" is just the reminder for the oil change. That should come on every 20K or 2 years (If I remember correctly). Sounds like he changed the oil 5 months before you picked it up.
I would think the 07 would be the same. Check my facts on the time ,,, I am going off my 09 system. Either way, just a service reminder.

 

Thanks for the help. I'm guessing that the service reminder needs to be reset electronically? He said the dealer serviced but who knows?

I bought the durametric tool to reset mine and it also reads codes... When I bought mine used the dealer said they did an oil change (which I believe they did) but shortly after I had it my service light came on. I guess they changed the oil and because the service light was not yet on, they did nt reset it ... Not a problem, now you can change it and know for the next time.
