Alcantara - Like/Disklike it?

Love it on the seats. Cooler than leather and much better grip.
Not a fan for the steering wheel - too much grip and it takes slightly more effort than leather to maintain.
Awesome on the headliner.

My take:
Benefits: light-weight, grippy
Cons: wear issues in certain cases, not as "luxury" as leather (it is "fake" suede essentially)
I think for a street car that is tracked on occasion or driven in the canyons, alcantara is best for seat inserts (grippy) and the headliner (weight). I prefer leather or just normal "plastic" in other areas. I MUCH prefer leather for the shifter and steering wheel. To me, it just feels nicer.

With all due respect to everyone, I bet that if Alcantara were cheap to make, we would all be yelling bloody h*&(%%ll!
Semi-similar to Pyrex, I think if the car were meant to be a non-daily driver, Alcantara would be it for lightweight and grip. For daily driving, I would prefer leather.

Keep in mind... Alcantara is a brand name for what is effectively and sometimes called ultrasuede or (fake suede leather). So it's not cheap, at least compared to generic ultra-suede. But it's cheaper than leather, at least good quality leather, most likely.

Thanks. Cars are slow

I like it. My car has the full leather, and it seems ideal as a headliner. I have no idea what it is, and how long its been around. The name sounds pretty upscale and exotic, but its probably made by Monsanto or 3M. Sure beats that old perforated stuff in earlier 911's.

I wear RRL jeans all the time on my alcantara seas with no signs of blue transferring.

Maybe if you profusely sweat your a** off you might get transfer?I could only see that remotely happening with the original 501 shrink to fit jeans?

Funny as it may but I once bought a brand new pair of Levi's Jeans (indigo boot cut) and a pair of suede boots. After an hour, the boots had a blue ring where the seams rubbed against the suede. The brand new boots were trashed.
You don't have to sweat. The dye will transfer by the rubbing action.
