Squeaking Brakes

Squeaking Brakes
I have a 06 911S with 45500 miles. Every time I put decent pressure on the brakes they squeak. This started yesterday. Any chance this is caused by dust or is it time to replace the brakes?

Couple things could be going on:
1) Your pads could be glazed. Lot's of city or stop and go driving will do that. Try hard braking to burn the glaze off. Get up to 40mph or more and jam on the brakes very hard. Then do it a couple more times. Obviously, be careful that nobody else is around.
2) At 45,000 miles you might be due for new rotors. If a lip/bead has formed on the disc they will squeal more.
3) It's possible, but not likely, that the anti squeal shims are no longer stuck to the pads. That's an easy fix. Just a can of anti squeal spray applied to the back of each pad.
It's likely not dust.
The worst case here is that you need new discs. That's a few hundred bucks. A pair of OEM discs is about $350 for parts. Not terrible.
Good luck.

I replaced my pads at 50K --- yes, they were almost at the sensors.
BTW, I agree with most of the post above, except....
At 20K-50K range, my brakes made noises also but only when they were dirty. I quick weekly hosing made the noise disappear.
