Love the 997, but still somewhat married to.....

About 9 years ago I almost bought an STI. It drove really well and was very practical, but I could not get over the looks from the inside or the outside. Interior is like a corolla with racing buckets, and the outside looks like they put a suggestion box outside a high school and then used all of them.
When I parked my S2000 or park my 911 I gaze longingly at it as I walk away. When I parked the STI after a (very fun) test drive I walked away and felt embarrassed looking at it. Parking an STI is like admitting to your friends you just slept with the ugliest girl at the party, and boy was she good.

The 997 is my all time favorite.
But I must confess a love for my '93 Mazda RX-7 R1 Twin Turbo. I had previously owned a first gen '81 RX-7, second gen '86 RX-7 and then the third gen '93. They say the 3rd time is the charm and it was for me.
I bought mine new back in the day and recall being able to beat my friend's Posrche 911 (964). The 3rd gen RX-7 had supercar looks and performance at a fraction of the price. (Mazda claimed 0-60 in 4.9 secs.) After my second child was born, I traded the '93 RX-7 for a new E36 BMW M3. The M3 was a great car, but not as nimble and raw as the RX-7. I always regret trading the RX-7. Still do. I'm somewhat sentimental about that car, because of the memories that go with my youth as well.
Didn't own a digital camera back then (did they even exist in the early '90s?), all I have are old fashion pics using film. Here's a scan of my former love...

You guys need to stop talking about your old S2000s. It's making me miss the one I traded in for my 997. The reason I moved up was 'cause we had a baby. Still, that S2000 was the gateway drug for me.

The one that got away
Great thread! I miss my 2007 Saleen S281 Speedster the most . I purchased it new after graduation and it was a 1 of 1 production model and was quick, track-worthy with looks-to-kill. One day, I plan on locating it and buying it.

Wow!...especially with the shell installed. And a 1 of 1. Why did you get rid Of it?

Nowadays, I might just settle for a Civic Si or a BRZ. I need something that I could use that I don't have to worry about when going to the gym, store, etc.
