Car just died at the red light??

No, it is not safe and definetely it is technically wrong.
Remove the MAF from the car WITH KEYS REMOVED. Clean the MAF with the special spray for cleaning MAF sensors, not any contact spray.
Let the MAF dry well in open air for at least one hour.
DO NOT WIPE THE MAF.
Replace and start the car.

Is it a manual or PDK? I had a similar experience with my daily drive MB E350, it turned out to be a sensor switch on the the automatic transmission gone bad. It would just quit at red lights off & on. If you have PDK, have them check the transmission
