New 997 c4s owner
I just purchased a 2006 c4s with 40k on it - it is a cop and I pick it up this Saturday - so excited
I have always imagined I would buy an older maybe 2002 - but was able to swing the payments for this beauty
The dealership is cpo-ing the car this week and will include new tires + the 50k service
I can see there is a lot to learn - and I'm am in it for the long haul - any advice I received will be well appreciated
I guess one question now would be - do I spend the $1600 for the wheel and tire protection plan before I pick up the car?
Thanks in advance - happy to be a part of this

If you are a reasonably careful driver and have a history of being good to your wheels, I'd say there is no need for the wheel/tire insurance. It is also a matter of how much risk you are comfortable accepting.
The tires on most Porsche wheels do a good job of protecting the tire. You'd have to press the side of the tire in pretty far to scuff the wheel itself. Take a look at the setup on your car and see if this is correct.
If worse comes to worse, that much money will buy you a couple of new tires and a wheel scuff repair. The state-of-the-art in wheel repair these days is pretty good.
Finally, you'll find that there is a huge tendency for Porsche enthusiasts to buy quit a few aftermarket upgrades and accessories. Take a look around and see if there is anything else you'd like to spend $1600 on.

I will get some basic pics up tomorrow - I held of on the protection plan originally cause I like aftermarket wheels - I will drive this for at least a year before any major upgrades - and with this feed back skip the protection plan!
The car is silver with all black leather everything - suede roof lining - six speed short shifter - air suspension - sport package - the tires do look like they will protect just fine and i was fine with less tire on 19s on my bmw 535 - also has
laser defuser / radar in mirror - I'm sure the last owner drove it - hope this is a good thing?
Any thoughts on the 40k mileage - should I be concerned?
Thanks for the welcome - this is going to be the longest week ever - but what a feeling already and it's not even in the garage yet lol

Sounds great! I bought my silver 2006 C4 as a CPO just a few months ago. It was 36k miles so it was pretty much in the same state (although not a "S"... I'm jealous). IMHO, the savings you are getting over a much lower miles car are well worth it especially since the CPO covers you for 2 years. Remember that 40k miles on a high-quality Porsche is still excellent, especially considering the age of the car.
As part of the CPO fixup and the 50K service, the dealer probably spent a lot of money getting the car in top-notch shape. You can probably get the dealer to show you the details of everything they did; mine did.
Look at it this way, I'll bet you are paying less than half of the original price for a car in near-new condition. Save your $1600 and enjoy your virtually "new" car knowing that you are thoroughly covered for 2 years. If you feel compelled to spend the $1600, consider spending it on better insurance deductables. That paid off for me when a board get kicked up by the SUV in front me and broke my headlight. You don't want to pay for one of those yourself!

First of all congrats on your purchase, it looks amazing If the roads are bad where you live I would do it, if you haven't really had a problem before with any other vehicles then I might think about skipping it. I would consider some Side Markers and LED Interior Lighting Kit for your first modifications. Enjoy, I hope you can get some sleep between now and Saturday.

Anyway, yes it is an excellent thing that the previous owner drove the car. Actually, at 40K miles, it has not been driven that much, but not too little either. 40K miles is the end of the adolescence for such cars (I got mine at 36K two years ago).
At 40K, I did a spark Plug changes and serpentine belt, just to be on the safe side. You should do the same, if not already done.
Enjoy. And welcome to the Porsche club.
Talking about that, make sure you return the card (in the User guide) to Porsche North America and register your vehicle with them. They will send you free of charge the Christophorus magazine, some goodies and may contact you for recalls if any.

Gday mate. Congrats on the new car. My 2007 Targa 4S is 6 months old to me....and I'm loving it (BTW...mine's only got 9,000miles!).
Before you get carried away with mods I would suggest living with it, working out the priorities and scan the posts here.
On a more serious item. Do have your engine number checked for the IMS Bearing type yours has...if its and earlier 997 with the smaller one...maybe spend your first investment on a bearing upgrade....best cash you'll spend I suggest.

Air Suspension? What is that? My 2006 C4S does not have air suspension... LOL

To the best of my knowledge there is no air suspension option from Porsche on a 911. Also, your head liner is technically Alcantara. Which is the brand name of synthetic suede.
I agree with Hounddub, live with it for a bit before you do anything. Mods are crazy expensive even for simple items. The only thing I did was swap out the amber indicators for clear ones...and that was 3 years ago.
It is worth looking into the IMS bearing but not crucial as you do have an 06 with over 10k on the clock. This would be at least a $1,000 job at an independent shop to replace with the larger bearing if you do have the smaller one. The dealership should be able to tell you which you have.
