It truly is a testament to modern suspension systems that this kind of thing really doesn't make that much difference to ride quality...

Does anyone know for sure what the minimum diameter is that will clear the calipers on a 997.2 CS?

Sorry. I didn't intend to trash anyone for enjoying their car however they want to. I'm aware that fewer and fewer agree with me on this issue...and in any case, it's just my opinion. I was, however, being serious when I asked about the minimum diameter that would fit...just for my own information.

Was mostly interested to hear comments about how small the brakes look with bigger wheels, which was the main point of my post. It's a given performance declines with 20" wheels.

Funny you mention that I just cleaned my wheel really well a week or so ago and it bothered me I could not get to the Calipers. I would either have to take the wheels off or move the car an inch at a time and clean a little each time I move it.

Must be great to just reach in and clean everything.

My thoughts exactly, I just think 19" looks perfect on this car. With that said, 20's to me would be next, to me they look better than 18's.
