So what all is included with the PSE? Just the side mufflers or also a center muffler replacement?

Awesome! Thanks! This answers my question....so basically the center muffler (large muffler) gets reused from the regular S exhaust.

I think the center muffler(s) you're referring to are actually the catalytic convertors (CATs). At least they are on a 997.1. GT3's I believe have center mufflers.

Yes when I say center muffler I'm referring to the piece that gets replaced by the cross over pipes. I was under the impression that this was a secondary muffler apart from the side cans. So this piece remains on the car and the PSE does not come with a piece to replace this center canister, correct?

PSE uses the existing CATs.

This photo clearly shows the headers, mufflers and CATs. The only thing you replace is the mufflers themselves. Of course you can also change the headers and CATs as well if you see fit. I did X51 headers when I installed my PSE.

Interesting...on the stock configuration, the cats sit a little closer to the runners of the headers, and where the cross over pipes are, there is a giant canister instead. Which is why I was wondering if the PSE kit comes with just the 2 mufflers (side mufflers) or if it also brings a replacement for the center canister, which would be right where the cross overs are.

Thanks for the all the help and illustration.

No replacement center muffler on the 997.2 PSE kit. You keep the stock one in place.

Do yourself a favor: Forget about the Porsche Sport Exhaust.

Heavy

Expensive

You will hardly ever use the switch

To me, the PSE is right up there with Porsche's Nav package.

Expensive, and you can do better.

How long have you had your car?

How long have you been frequenting 6 Speedonline or Rennlist?

Have you ever been to an indie Porsche facility, any place other than a dealership? Compared shop rates/level of tech experience? Not busting your chops, just wondering. Knowledge is good, might save you some coin.

You can do better than PSE, for the above stated reasons.

Good luck.

Thanks for your input. The reasons for which I want to go with a PSE is not for weight savings or performance gains. I'm aware that I will get neither of those with a PSE. I just like the sound/look of it, and the ability to open/close the valve. Also, my car is not a track car, and for the sake of car value, I prefer to own a car with OEM equipment; but I completely understand where you're coming from.

The full PSE install process is not super difficult in and of itself. It is a bit tedious to get right, and requires wiring into the cabin and vacuum hose routing to engine for the complete install. Easy to find used PSE cans and tips for sale in all the normal places, much harder to find the necessary plumbing.

All this said, it is pretty cool to be able to switch between loud and quiet mode.

Glad to hear you've got the Gundo hack now - it's fun and sounds great.

Cheers

Mufflers, vacuum lines and solenoid are pretty straightforward and is not a difficult job as you say. I know from experience that routing the cables/harness into the cabin area is tough unless you're a tiny person w/ long hands/fingers. Being triple jointed doesn't hurt either. The grommet from the motor compartment to the cabin is hard to get to let alone snake a couple of wires through it. That being said it is a doable job.

Once the harness is in the cabin area you then decide how you want to switch the PSE on/off. Many folks simply put a single pole/throw switch toggle switch in the console ashtray. I did that initially and then did an integrated solution in the PCM panel using the Porsche 'exhaust logo' switch used on non 'Sport Chrono' equipped cars. Do a search on the many Porsche forums for more info and hints & tips.

If anyone is interested, or knows someone else interested, I have listed my gundo'ed + AWE cross pipes exhaust on the marketplace section, all very reasonably priced, given that I have decided to move towards the PSE.

Thanks!
