IMS Guardian Jr in my 2005 997 3.6
Vehicle info: 2005 997 3.6 Tip with single row IMS bearing @ 35000km
Bought the IMS Guardian Jr kit from LNengineering.com and had it installed by my local mechanic a while ago. Although this system offers peace of mind regarding to early IMS bearing failure, There is no way to test whether the IMS guardian Jr is working properly once it is installed. There is no check button, or any light flash/buzzard sound when I power up the engine. At times I wonder if the IMS guardian Jr is actually working and doing its job of detecting the presence of metallic debris at the magnetic drain plug.
For the above reason, one should consider the IMS Guardian Sr where one can press the integrated module button to test proper function of the IMS Guardian Sr module. Unfortunately the IMS Guardian Sr is only available for the 996/986 M96 engine.
Can some one experienced with the IMS Guardian Jr enlighten me on my concern? The IMS failure on early 997 M97 engine is scary. Thought the IMS Guardian Jr offer some peace of mind. But the doubt of it working properly still keep me anxious.
Many thanks in advance

I had ordered the IMS Guardian Jr., but never installed it. One of my concerns was the same one you have.
On a side note, not to thread hijack, but I have my brand new IMS Guardian Jr. for sale. It is listed in the marketplace for $259.

Is this the reason why you chose not to install the Jr kit?
No on car testing once installed. Really have no idea whether its working or not once installed.

Thanks. How much would you want for it. I am not sure that I need to install it, as explained below.
About my search (slightly off topic). I am now leaning toward a 2008 C2 that is going through inspection. It may happen very soon (in that case I'll post pictures as proof). All mechanics I spoke with have confirmed what is said in the forum: that 2008 is very rarely subject to an IMS bearing failure. Also, they say that in the rare instances when it happens, often the damage can be caught early and is contained. Not catastrophic as in the 2005, 2006 models.
I have also tested a 1-owner 2009 (no IMS is great) at what I think was a fantastic price, but had some scratches in various places and thought was not worth the headaches of detailing etc. Hard for me to get the right value of these machines.
By the way, since I started my search I had to up my budget considerably because the IMS problem dissuaded me from buying a lower priced 2005 or 2006.
