"Sometimes" car manufacturers are forced to actually make their cars less than optimum just to comply with U.S. safety standards. I know for a fact that most of the earlier air-cooled U.S.-Porsches were actually higher in height than the ROWs just to meet bumper ht requirements.

My '83 SC Cab was lowered to ROW specs and it handled beautifully.

I know this thread is about suspension so don't get me started with emissions and CARB crap.
