AWE Exhaust Tip Install Issues

I just got a pair of AWE exhaust tips for my '09 C2S worh stock pipes. First off they look amazing. The craftsmanship is top notch as it should be for the price...

I'm having the hardest time getting the tips to tighten properly. I can't seem to get them tight enough. I've tried both the bracket that it came with as well as the stock brackets. There is a very slight play...more so on one side. When I put the stock tips back on they tighten nice and snug with no issues. It's almost like the metal on the AWE tips are so hard they won't grab tight.

Any help or advice would be great. Almost at the point where I'm going to go to a shop to have it done.

Thanks!!

Jason

Same thing with my Fabspeed ones... Passenger side just refuses to get tight enough.

Not an elegant solution, but you could wrap the pipes with a few layers of aluminum foil tape (google "324A tape"). It's sold at hardware stores, (Ace, HD, etc.).

@Chris It's also the passenger side I'm having trouble with. What did you end up doing? Left it on loose?

@ Alpine The tape sounds like a good idea I just worry that getting the tip over the pipe initially might tear off the tape.

I'm thinking an exhaust shop might be my best bet.

Common problem. What some shops do is to place a tack weld onto the tip after it is perfectly aligned. Another fix is to get a short length of exhaust tubing in the same diameter as the pipe and cut a section out of it, say a quarter or half circle and use it as a shim.

As recommended above, try shimming it. Go to the hardware store and find the thinnest/narrowest metal/aluminum bar/strip you could easily bend. They also come in sheets which you could actually cut with metal scissors.

Aluminum foil will eventually disentegrate (at least the kitchen ones I used to experiment with).

The shim was in there...I was able to move the bracket back a little bit and got it to tighten. So I think I have it down down...only bad thing is on the 2nd one I manage to over tighten it and broke the bolt...so using the OEM one of for now until AWE sends me a new one.
