Is the pdk in the 991 really that much better than our 997 pdks?
Been reading good reviews about the pdk in the 991. Some say a lot better than the pdks in our 997's. are they really that different considering that the item is practically a carry over from 997 to 991?

Almost certain they're referring to the 997.2 PDK v. the upgraded 991 PDK. There was never a comparison btwn the tiptronic and the PDK. It's universally accepted that the PDK is the better transmission from a performance standpoint. Having owned a tip and driven a few PDKs, I cant think of a reason (other than potential maintenance costs) why I'd opt for the tiptronic.

I have an '11' GTS with PDK and have driven three cars with the newer 991 version of the PDK. The 991 seems to have a crisper shift and a smoother engagement on roll off. The downshifts appear to be better as well. I wouldn't trade my car based on transmission differences. If you have never driven a car with PDK I would imagine the newer version might sway a few more manual owners.

yes our pdks do it too but not as exciting. internals iv read are really not much different. i think even the ratios could be the same as power has not really changed dramatically.

I had an 09 PDK car . It's night and day from the current 991 . When I test drove the 991 the first thing I loved was the new PDK . Smooth shifts , less jerkiness in sport mode , less boring in "normal" mode . Both will rev match and i did not drive the car enough to determine whether the 991 does this more or less efficiently but I loved the new box enough to sell my 997.2 . It was the dealbreaker of keeping my car .
I did order the 991 "S" and then I realized I needed to replace one of my other cars and opted to buy a Cayenne . I also did not like the 991 enough to sell my 997 Turbo (it's manual and EVT700 modified) .
A 997.2S compared to a 991S is an easy choice to vote 991 for me.
The harder choice would be the 991S Vs a 997.2 Turbo PDK --both stock (very close in price) .
The inferior PDK in the Turbo Vs the amazing ability to maintain boost on upshifts and enormous Hp and torque .
That's a tough one . A 997.2 pdk Turbo will cream a 991S in acceleration.
What's even tougher is that the new 991 Turbo is on the configurator . But before running out and buying it .. I will say this .. When I bought my Turbo in 07 it cost as much (stock) as a current 991S . For 6 years I pampered this car with low miles and worried every time I parked it anywhere taht it could face a ding , dent, or road debris . I am not ready to spend nearly 200K to do this all over again . YET !! Maybe I'll just wait to see the Turbo and maybe I'll pass . Not sure. Leaning towards passing it up.

They do it. Just like a regular manual, the higher the RPM when you downshift the sharper the blip.
