Independent mechanic in Los Angeles

A friend is looking for an independent in LA for clutch work on his 997. Anyone using Redline? I lost touch with them when Pete Zimmerman sold the biz. Any recommendations or comments welcome. Thanks!

I recently went to Lucent and Tom was pretty great to work with.

STA in the valley has a promotion on labor for clutches and its $100 for an oil change /Mobil 1

Try autotalent (talk to Sam) or Speed Gallery as well... Both Porsche specialists.

I've gone to a bunch of shops in LA but found House Automotive to be the best overall.

http://www.hautomotive.com/

They are worth the drive to Pasadena.

+1 on Rennsport in torrance. Just go by the shop when they open up and watch them pull all the 911s out into their lot. That is worth a visit by itself. Tony is great. He has saved me money by sending me back to porsche in items which are covered by cpo. He is very honest and knows his stuff

Can't help but add one more thing about Tony Callas.....

He travels all over the country giving technical seminars on weekends that independent Porsche shop owners pay to go to and learn the latest technology on the repair of Porsche cars!

Yes, he knows his stuff!

Callas gets rave reviews from many but the quote I got from him to replace the bushings under the shifter and in the tunnel on my 83 SC was a joke. I was quoted 5 hours of labor and told it was a difficult job. That you had to have it done just right by someone who knows what they're doing. He even added on an additional hour when I told him I had already purchased the parts from pelican parts. He complained about how was he to make a profit if people are buying their own parts. I did the job in 1.5 hours. It was a breeze and my car shifts great. I always worked on my m3 and other BMW's I've owned in the past and I know my way around cars a bit. I had never wrenched a Porsche although this 83 was my 3rd Porsche. It's a pity that mechanics want to take advantage of people.
