New LED Tail Lights (Gen 2, red/clear lens)

Well I've been debating for a long time on getting LED tail lights for my 2008 Targa 4S. I've heard a number of issues for Dectanes / Depo / Rottec ranging from assembly quality, check light, customer service, etc

Well after reading a number of threads, I decided to go with Del Ray Customs

Shane from Del Ray contacted me and help me decide on what to get and options. I decided to go with the Gen 2 LED tail lights with reverse LEDs. I couldn't be happier with the product. But more importantly, Shane's customer service is bar none the best that I've experienced so far on any mod that I've done on current and past cars. When I thought I had an issue, he contacted me to help me troubleshoot. It turned out to be my fault - I forgot to plugin the 2nd resister/module Anyways, the attached pics are before and after.

Thank you Shane / Del Ray Customs!

Are these the rottecs or the dectanes? Hard to tell from the photo, but they look very good.

FYI the lights are in no way upgraded as delrey claims, but they do provide good service and I like that they fixed some of the code issues with the harness + resistors. May still cave and buy a set...

Just curious, how do you know they're not upgraded?

Because it's a ridiculous claim. If you follow the other thread I called him out on it and he eventually quasi-admitted it. They originally claimed to have spent 2 years of R&D on the lights in an all original design but it was clearly a BS claim since they were identical to the rottecs. Then they insisted these were custom made just for them, but they only had ~20 or so sets made. I work with Chinese ODMs a great deal on electronics manufacturing so I know just how ridiculous that claim is - cost of R&D and building the initial machining would easily be in hundreds of thousands if you didn't already have a specialized factory set up, and his margin would be nowhere close to large enough to break even. He eventually quasi-conceded again that he is buying them from another manufacturer. (edit: it goes on, there's another thread where he tries to claim that there are a few identical sets of lights from different manufacturers, and he confuses the names of manufacturers with the names of cities in China...)

The claims to have *anything* to do with the manufacture of these products is 100% BS. He is simply buying them from a manufacturer in China. That's fine, there's nothing wrong with that. And he's adding a lot of value through great customer service, helping resolve the code-throwing issues with resistor packs and wiring harnesses, etc.

DRC clearly has great customer service and good workmanship. I don't understand why they feel the need to resort to sleazy marketing tactics ("my product, which is identical to my competitors' product, is better because of <reason you can never see, he can never prove>").

Anyways, don't let me poopoo on your parade. Your taillights look great.

Appreciate the feedback.
By the way, How much are the other vendor's offering for the same product as DRC?

DelRey seems to be offering the best price on the rottecs. If I wanted that style I'd probably go with them, despite my distaste for the marketing hype But they offer a 90 day warranty where rottec offers 1 year. It isn't unheard of for folks to have issues with these headlights a year after install.

If you like the depo style (I do) they are $600 street price.
