1/2 quart of oil every 300 miles what to do?

I will also agree that an oil and filter change is recommended, so you can start from point "zero" and see what is going on.
Also, the oil that will be removed might indicate several things if the mechanic knows what he is doing.

I dont know the exact amount, but my 06 C4 needs about 1/4 of a quart every 2 weeks or so. I drive in commuter traffic about 50 miles round trip every day. No leaks but the car does run rich. I think that the soot has been worse since I gundo'd it (my assumption is the muffler used to trap the soot I now see on the tail pipes).
I wouldnt worry about it too much, boxer engines are known for their oil consumption and as long as there are no visible droplets anywhere on the undercarriage and the cars pulls fine.

My consumption is 1QT per 800-1000 miles.
Half 'spirited' driving, half commute/freeway driving.
I do have an aftermarket turbo installed (which contributes to oil consumption) but then I also have a scavenger pump installed with the turbo to counter most of that.

With mileage that low I would be hesitant to put in a thicker oil. I'm not saying it won't help. I would do that as a last resort. Take apart your oil filter the next time you change it and take a look at what's been trapped. I would send a sample of your oil out to be analyzed to get a better idea of what's going on. It usually costs about fifty bucks, which is far less than any alternative. Google "motor oil analysis" for options. I know several people that have been able to figure out what was wearing and how imminent a tear down was needed by doing this. My brothers' shop does it all the time.

I am trying to determine with some more accuracy my oil consumption.
My recent estimate are for about 1 quart each 1,200-1,300 mi. but I am not entirely sure yet. In the first month or so after I purchased the car (used), it seems higher, but now appears to have stabilized.
semi spirited driving, with frequent shorter highway trips and occasional 200mi. trip.
I still think that it uses too much oil, but I understand that some degree of consumption is expected. Some cars however seem to go between oil changes with no oil top-up. Go figure.

09 DFI, no oil added between 5K or more oil changes. 12K miles on car. As everyone else (DFI) soot can be seen on car sometimes.
I don t understand why such a variation with some using none and some 1Qt per 1K.??
Keep us advised, very interesting.
