Thanks for the insight, although the snow in Seattle is nothing like back east, I am traveling so much that I don't want to get stuck at the airport.

Forget about all weather traction. Everyone always brings this up like your going to fart around in deep snow and salt with your Porsche. Forget it.

Just remember, Porsche clocked the 4S faster around the Nordschleife 2 seconds faster than the 2S in DRY conditions. Now herein lies the advantage.
Man your beast looks great, I feel like a tennis ball going back and forth with all of the feedback. Ideally I'd love to get the 4s, but the availability and price point are my variables.

Hey Ken,
My question was inquiring on the difference in overall performance as observed by the driver in a 2S vs a 4. Your feedback is exactly what I'm looking for and I am realizing a 4S would be awesome but a 4 would not be disappointing in a climate with snow/slick roads. I do like the wider hips and additional weight in the front to grab the road at higher speeds as you stated. I do need to drive them all, I just need to go to LA where they are all available to test. As you know it is hit and miss here locally. I am also looking at the 997.1's so it narrows the availability as well. Thanks again for the feedback.

I have a 08 C4S Cab. It is my DD I love it. I would not even consider, at this point anything but a C4. If I ever trade this one in, I will only consider a C4. Works for me very well as a DD. My car has had full Fabspeed from headers to exhaust tips a well as ECU upgrade. It is unbelievably fast, above 3800 rpms hold on. It sticks well to the road and is really all most will ever need.

Sounds like a 4 is what you want, so go for it (after you try both). Funny thing is, when I lived in LA, I found my Targa 4S in Marin County, and then I found my current C2S cab in Denver. So while there are lots of cars in LA, they weren't always what I was looking for. If there are some there, it would be a good place to go to try them out. I would recommend fixing on the model you want, then identify all the options that are important to you, then look country-wide on AutoTrader for the car you want.

if you can do it get the turbo for awd.. i really feel that with the power the s makes a c4s would be a little sluggish due to the extra weight of the front diff and axles paired with the wider body .. just my 0.2

i must say that c4s cabs do look pretty sweet though

you're funny,
the OP is trying to decided between a 4 or 2S and now u want him to consider the Turbo?? my advice, don't drive the turbo since you won't want a non turbo car anymore.

I used to live in Seattle for 10 years, much of that in college driving a college car (POS). No 4WD was needed. Just get a set of winter tires and call it good. It rarely snows. Any car should be able to compete with the rain with a set of good tires.

Thats my plan when I move back in a month. Trading in the 3 series coupe for a new cayman or 997.2 C2. I would consider a C4S but only if I wasn't paying any more than a Carrera S for it.

The ten years I was there I think it snowed once every other year, with 2 times being enough snowfall/ice to warrant 4WD.

I know everyone say S because of the increased power but I will say I have never wished I had more power driving my 4. It's not like the autobahn is in the US. I compare it to my 12 years riding sports bikes. Everyone says "get the 1000 cc". You'll never use all of the power anyway save the money between the 4s and the 4 and do some nice mods with it.

Just my 2 cents

Hey guys, thanks for all of the feedback. Here is where I have landed, first I need to drive a 4 to make sure the power and feel align with what I need. Second, I will keep an eye out for a 4S just to track price vs a standard 4. Although a 4S is ideal, I have seen lower mileage 4's for less. Since it will be a daily driver I would like to find one with reasonably lower milage. Third, I need more porsche owners to trade up to the 912 model to create a greater supply of 997.1's and maybe even .2's.

Thanks again for the feedback, I hope this thread helps others that are evaluating the different 911 options, because there are so many things to consider!
