Thoughts on Buying this 997...
Hi All,
I am looking at a 2005 C2 Cab, 44k miles. It comes from a P-Dealership. The dealer says that they inspected it and it checks out and is solid with no issues. I usually have a P-dealer do a PPI when looking at cars that are being sold from a random used car dealer.
1. Could I rely on the dealership that is selling me the car, or should I have someone else do a PPI?
2. Purchase price is $42k. Thoughts?
3. I am trading in a 2001 C2 Cab. This 2005 is basicly the same. It's not an S, no sports chrono option. Is it even worth the upgrade? I am excited to get in a 997 for the more modern interior, and round headlights. Curious to know if the forum thinks a base earrly 997 c2 is a worthwhile upgrade from the 966, or if I should wait until I can find a c2s or a 997 a bit later?
Thanks!
Ray

I would think you may be better served to have a non-selling P-car dealer do the PPI. Also there is a pretty big difference, IMHO, between the 996's and the 997's. I think $42K is high and would be comfortable in the high 30's like $38-39K. Also, will this then be a CPO car? To me that is worth about $2K. Only you can decide if you really want the S or the base Carrera. Have you driven both models?

Rule #1 - Never buy on emotion.
Has this car had the IMS upgrade accomplished?
If you can afford it, go for an S rather than a C2, a 2006 or later model year, and a CPO car.
Aftermarket warranties on may car models are superfluous, but in the case of owning a Porsche (or any other higher end car), they are often a real financial lifesaver and peace of mind if things go South mechanically. However, but a GOOD comprehensive policy from a reputable company with high marks from its customers. There are some out there that are not so good. Your Porsche dealer can probably recommend a good one.
Research issues on certain models by year. Excellence magazine has a great on-line resource for this. (http://www.excellence-mag.com/resources/buyers-guide)

The selling dealer did my CPO, and they missed several pretty obvious items. I caught immediately after taking the car, and they were less helpful. Mostly superficial, but would not trust this particular dealership to do a CPO.
