Do we like front DRL LEDs on 997s now that we've had them for a while?

I installed rear LED's on my 06 C2S a couple of years ago and love their look. I considered doing the fronts, but couldn't justify the cost. Now I have no desire to make the change because I think the LED look is starting to get tiring. It was great when Audi first came out with theirs, but then they and others didn't seem to know when to stop adding more and more of them around the headlights and parking lights. I don't mind the halo lights that are starting to show up more and more. It all comes down to personal preference, and I'm quite satisfied with my stock parking and fog lights up front.

Surprisingly, when it comes to my 997.1 I prefer the OEM fronts and tails. The LEDs up front eliminate the fogs at the expense of cosmetics and the LED tails seem sort of poser-esque as in I want a newer car but don't want to pay for it. Just my opinion.

My Fogs have yellow ion bulbs in them and I used a $1 diode to have them function as DRL when in switch is in HOME position. I also swapped to front and rear signal bulbs for LED bulb replacements because I prefer the instant-on/off light they provide.

I will not be adding LED's to my car on the front OR back simply because I like to keep things time period correct. The 997.2 LED's look great, but cheesy on the .1 IMO. It is obvious that they are aftermarket, and could be seen as trying to make your car look newer than it really is.

It reminds me of how everyone ran out and updated their 07 S Class tails to the LED's even though at the time, the painted stripe through the middle was the thing!

My question here is, where can I get a GOOD set of "All Red" tails?

I also ride motorcycles, (HD FLHRT), and I fear that when every car has LED DRL's, the inattention paid by most drivers will blank out the DRL's as visual noise and they will not even notice the car.

As to the original question, +1 on the LED's, but I have turned off the DRL's.

I don't like them.
I personaly like old cars. so giving a modern look is not something I want.
and I hate wanna-be look. a 997.1 that look like a 997.2.
997.1 are awesome cars. no need to be a wannabe-997.2

I have seen a nissan 350z with the audi R8 stripe. ruined the car... wanna-be R8

Personally, I love them. I have both the LED DRL and LED Tails dectane style. Don't get me wrong, I love old style cars too (love them 964's).

For those wanting full red tails, you can probably check your local wrap shop. They might have a red wrap that can go over your existing tail lights that could save you a bit of cash.

Don't want to be anything but modern, nothing wrong with that. Makes me laugh when you guys say, I like it OEM, then keep it that way. LED lights are like clear side markers, those who changed them, like the way they look. If the 997.2 didn't have them, I would still change it out to LED, they look so much better IMO. Not trying to wannabe anything here, I just wannabe be looking good. Go park your car next to someone who has it and you'll see what I mean.

I agree with Ynot. If you like OEM parts, great. If you like aftermarket parts great. No one is right or wrong here.

agreed. tuning is all about personal preferances...

anyone have his own personal taste.

I personaly like the sleeper look. people look at the 997.1 and can't find why it look nicer than another 997.1.

just opinion and personal taste.

From what I've read, LED lights offer longer life, are less prone to failure from vibration, use less power to run, are more visible when lit, and illuminate a tad faster (brake lights). Other than improving the aesthetics of the car (subjective), the practical advantages of LED over incandescent bulbs are also there if one can justify the expense of retrofit. I still have my incandescents on my .1, but LED's are on the wish list after a few other priorities around the house...

By the way, one of the BIG improvements on the 991 is that Porsche FINALLY has an "auto" mode for the headlights, and I believe they may also now have daylight running lights, too. Welcome to the 21st century, Porsche. We've been waiting for you.

As the OP, my intent was to get a few folks that have now had them for over a year or so to speak to their reviews...I recall some original LEDs not working great, or requiring electrical mods...quality seemed spotty by brand. Some loved, some hated. And,yes, the aesthetic was a question...for example, my wife is a purist, not a single mod, won't let me touch her car...I'm more flexible, but still moderate.

Thanks for the spirited discussion. Other than quality and installation, no right or wrong here. All good stuff! Cheers and Happy early 4th.
