Cool 997 Roll Bar

FWIW…the existing and readily available Tequipment GT3 roll bar fits perfect (as Porsche designed it for the GT3) in the 997. If you have been told otherwise (as I was) from the “experts” you have been given incorrect information. Furthermore, the entire interior has the same dimensions (as it applies to optional equipment) as the 996. If you are interested in using your 997 for DE and want the benefit of a five point harness and a roll bar you can use the same equipment that will work in the 996. I was told from several sources I respect that the interior dimensions of the 997 were different then that of the 996. In fact, short of very minute differences in the plastics used in the interior the measurements were 99.9% the same when I measured my interior and compared it to my good friend’s 996. The “optional” equipment I referenced specifically the seats, roll bar and rear shock strut brace of the 996 will work (as designed and without modification) in the 997. Additionally, you will be able to “blow out” the seat air bag warning light in programming, yet still retain the use of the front and side air bags as designed. The airbag warning light was an issue that I thought would take forever to figure out until 930man said he had tech buddy at a dealership that was once involved in Porsche racing and was good at making the lights “go away” on late model 911’s. After receiving the thumbs up call from 930man I went to see my friend with a PST3 tester…after five minutes of programming we were able to make the light go out and it has not come back on.

I have read many posts and e-mails pertaining to 997 modifications and would like to stress the fact that you should never say NO unless YOU KNOW!

It went something like this Jay; I woke up one morning and realized that the ten thousand dollars I had invested in tools over the years included and twenty dollar tape measure…

Thanks for taking the time to discuss the “finer” points of a Tequipment roll bar installation, your tips helped a lot...

For the people of this board that have not yet had the pleasure of working with Rhonda, Evan, or Jay at FVD, I would strongly advise you to consider them before making any Porsche parts purchases…

…oh and who ever accidentally shipped me the wrong roll bar is FIRED!

rear seat back removal

Hi VB997,
First ,I want to say your car is amazing...
Second, I'm wondering how did you remove the rear seat back?
Does it require some special tools?
Thanks,
Colonel
