Clicking noise in suspension when rocking s wheel back and forth

I was parked in my garage recently and i accidentally rocked the steering wheel and i heard a loud click coming from under the car. The clocking noise is repeatable! I brought it to the dealer and after trying 2 other cars they all had the same noise. Is this normal? You can hear the sound when the car is parked and the wheels turned a few degrees. Turn off engine and rock the steering wheel back and forth. You will hear the clicking sound coming from the steerign system. Just checking all the possible problems cause warranty is about to expire and want all stuff replaced before they conk out on me.

Normal. FYI, I don't think it's good to 'rock' your steering wheel with the engine off. After all, the hydraulics are supposed to be active when using the steering wheel.

Now, if you have a 911SC like mine, you could do it.... just make sure you have the guns to turn the wheel.

brothers you do not have to turn the wheel, just rock it back and forth. you will hear the clicking noise. agree this is not a normal thing to do but i would suppose that with our supposedly robust steeing gears, no such noise should be there. i dont have it in my other cars so i suppose it could be a problem. there seems to be no apparent problem when riding the car driving hard or softly.

I did it and heard nothing but the normal sound of the lash along the steering connections. No click from below the car. Mine is a 2008 C4S cab, if that contributes anything. I made sure the wheel was unlocked as well.

I retract my input or better yet let me be clear after reading your post.

Mine is an 07 c4s and I don't have any noise coming from "under" the car. The only noise I could hear would be coming from the steering column "inside" the car.

Hope this helps.

Probably just normal lash along the steering column. Impossible to judge one way or the other on an internet forum. Recommend that you take your car to the dealer or a trusted Porsche indy tech for them to listen to, if you're that concerned, though.

Initial assessment... No excessive play in steering system. They tested on a lift next told them to put it down on floor and check again. Wll give feedback tomorrow.

keefers is infamous around these parts
Is your car lowered? I have a 2010 cab lowered with H&R springs and when I turn the wheel I get a clicking noise. I was told both by the dealer and my tuner guy that this is normal for lowered cars and the noise is coming from the springs them themselves. It was bit unnerving at first now I am just used to it.
