Hey bro, just need to know if your happy with your results? I will share my progress for all to appreciate when my speakers come. There is something i think im realizing the bose also needs breaking in. Starting to sound better.

I am glad to report that the 8's are in with 3/4 spacers. I used the housing a a template to ensure I have a wing-like spacers. Pics to follow.
Rick,
Before I close the driver's side, do you need anything? Measurements? Design?
Let me know!
Do me a favor. Can you check the woofer corner and find out if you have a little bit of opening between the panel and the door metal. Perhaps 1/16-2/16"? I am sure my panel is now closed as I removed the fasteners and test-fitted everything before closing her up.

Bose break in??? I assume you're kidding. Nothing is breaking in after the car has a few hundred miles.
My speakers have come in to bloom nicely. The tweeters have great highs, but do not glare at all. The 4s and 6.5s have great punch, you really feel the kick from drums - this is the biggest improvement over the Bose. The bass from the Bose sub is not bad (after stuffing it), but still could be tighter.

Curious how it worked out. Sounds like you had some fitment issues with the spacers. My panels went on with no issues.

No issues except for 1 broken fasteners. I guess the trick to panel alignment is 'wiggling it'!
Anyways, since I believe I was the first one to install 8's, I decided to buy 1/4" MDF. Additionally, since I was not sure that the mounting holes would be too close to the edge, I fabricated 3 cutouts (2 same sizes and 1 oversize one); stacked together, they would mimick the factory bracket (but lower in height). You can take a look at the pic for the 3 pieces. The 3 pieces were eventually glued together. I also notched a hole for the speaker wires to go thru.
I also used the factory bracket as a guide to drill straight holes. The holes were about 99.9% aligned with the door so I was pleased with surviving that ordeal. If you look close enough, I used the 4 factory bolts AND the 4 green-stained bolts (from the factor resonator). The resonator bolts are the perfect size for the 3/4 bracket.
After the drilling, I noticed that I the mounting holes were inwards enough that I just jigsaw the oversize piece.
I used silicone for sealing.
Cheers.

Some audio fans believe that you only need fronts (ala concert). I, on the other hand, would like to be surrounded.

Just in case it is needed regarding the tweeter....
KEEP METAL OBJECTS (LIKE SCREWDRIVER) AWAY FROM THE TOP TWEETER MEMBRANE. THE MAGNET WILL ATTRACT THE METAL AND WILL PUNCTURE IT." Ask me how I know!
You can remove the screen mesh with a screwdriver. Just carefully pry off!
The innermost tweeter is held by glue to the housing. Though I attempted everything, I ended up having to dremel the housing. The glue are at opposite ends. Simply dremel a little portion on either side (thin out the housing), take your pliers and snap the housing into two pieces. Careful with snapping the housing: the decorative horizontal piece above the tweeter might bend into the tweeter.
Careful with the electronics also. A wire or two are also held/glued to the housing with a rubberized tack. Just take a screwdriver to detach/scrape the glue.

Hey cab you sure those tweeters sound the way they should? Those plastic pieces aid in directing the soind waves coming from the tweeter. As you know the highs are directional. Removing the plastic housing has changed the emitting properties of the tweeter...
Pulling your leg of course, hahaha. It seems the 8 inchers are more work than the 6.5 of rye. Maybe we can innovate on thsi one.
The panel in my car looks evenly placed all around? If you feel there is binding somewhere affecting the corner you probably might be right. No abnormal spaces brother.

Hi rye, iv just recently learned that speakers need to be broken in, from this topic. Read also from here that after proper breakin speakers sound a lot better. Might be a good joke to just say hey guys all we needed to do was let the bose speakers get a good break in and it sounds wonderful, hahahaha. After all the posts hehehe

You are correct. Once I removed the housing, my engine lost 10 horses!
Not much work on the 8's, except for moving your jigsaw for the ears!
You'll be happy with the 8's --- I am! Are you going to have one of the locals do the carpentry work! Hahaha. I missed being a prince when I'm in the Philippines.

Go buy the 3/4" MDF. I resorted 1/4" stacked together since I did not know how low or high I should go. Now we know that 3/4 should be okay so go straight with 3/4".
Have fun!
I'll work on the rest speakers in a few weeks.

Aray! Ako'y Pinoy! Hahaha
I was going to retire there 7 years ago. People thought I was crazy to retire at early 40s. I should have listened to my instinct and pulled the trigger. I thought I could bring the SC Cab, the 997 and one crotch rocket.
I guess it's cheaper to buy the Porsche there than bringing one in. Grrrr!

You are in fact correct, going to get my carpenter to do the mounting of eights. Im sure he will do a better job than me. Plus i already book the local porsche tech to come to the house when the speakers come so he could dismantle the panels for me. Hes done it so many times with 997's im sure he will break less items than if i tried it myself, all for a couple of beers and "merienda". Only thing missing still are the speakers, and the door clips which i have to order. Feel bad for not thinkning about those items it cost $1.5 there it cost $4 here each. Have to fast mail those clips. Tech mentioned they break easily.

Are you really? Great to see our pinoy brothers around the porsche forums. Although i have to agree retiring early is not really healthy, imo of course, working and keeping busy are a few of the things that keep one alive. Stop and one ages faster.
Just celbrated 50 years of 911 over here at a place called highlands with local dealer and porsche club. Will try to post a topic on that one. It was a great event.

Well cheap is a point of view and very relative. Eventough we are still less expensive than say buying a car in singapore, a new 991s will run you more than $200,000. The price of luxury. Hope you did not drop your ipad or mac air or anything else hahaha.

Glad to hear about completion! I have no doubt the 8s should fit no problem with the 3/4"spacers. Glad you got it together. I think the 8s will be better than the 6.5s. The initial performance is only a hint of the conversion. You will be very pleased. Have you disconnected the center yet?
I was overly hung up on the cosmetics of the tweeter. Butchering it was definitely a good idea.
No amount of break in will help the Bose...
