'05 with 17k
I'm thinking of purchasing an '05 C2 with 17k miles on the clock. 3,800 in the last 3 years. The car basically sits around and collects dust.
I'll do a PPI and maybe even a costco warranty which would cover until it needs a new clutch then replace the IMS bearing.
Thoughts on buying a '05 with that few miles / use? Anything in particular that you would be concerned about?

I was in the same boat here less than a year ago - a 2005 C2 with 16k miles that I ended up buying.
No doubt get the PPI and see what comes from that.
While getting my PPI done at Porsche, I checked on their warranty options through Fidelity. Since the car is low mileage, the warranty costs are considerably lower even on a 2005. Can't recall exactly what the terms were, but was roughly around $3.5k for 4 years and 50k miles. There were several price point options though for how many years coverage and what exactly is covered. I believe a lower drivetrain option only that would cover IMS was around $2k. Again just ballpark on the numbers...can't recall exactly. Would assume same deal with Costco options.
I ended up passing on getting any warranty though. It's more of a personal thing but I'm more the type that prefers to self insure and am not afraid to roll the dice here. I also read a fair amount of comments where people sometimes have issues with claims...you can't count on the insurance claim process always going smooth. That said - if the car was a daily driver I would have purchased the warranty. But for me it's just a weekend car that is pretty babied - and I'm also not afraid to tackle what minor repair/maintenance items I can (much thanks to great information on forums like this).
It sounds like you're familiar with the IMS situation and the sound advice to replace it with the clutch. Also check the build date...if it's before March 2005-ish it'll have the old IMS bearing that is more prone to failure. Porsche updated/improved it around March 2005. The good news though if you have the older one (as I do with a later 2004 build date), the IMS can be replaced relatively easily and can have it done when you do the clutch...or earlier if you're that worried about it. If the build date is newer than March 2005, it's more expensive/involved to replace - however - odds of it having issue are appear to be considerably lower. I don't think either way it would influence my buying decision, just good to know where the car stands.
Good luck - if you get the PPI would be interested to hear how it comes back!

Bought an 05 Last July with 16200 miles. Just rolled 25000 last week. Drive it like I stole it everyday. CPO for another year, will probably add an extended warranty when that runs out as I love my car.
In the shop for an alignment as I had to hop a curb to miss getting hit. They gave me a brand new (120 miles) Cayenne GTS as a loaner. Good lord that is a fun truck if you are into that sort of thing

I checked the VIN on the IMS settlement website (VIN checker here http://www.imsporschesettlement.com/porsche-vin/ ) and it does have the weaker IMS bearing.
This would be a DD for me so I would probably get the Costco warranty if I get the car. Costco quoted $3300 for 6yr/60k warranty with $500 deductible.

Put some black wheels and black stoneguards and she will be perfect. I know my car has enjoyed the last year with me more than the previous 6 with her PO. Drive it like she wants to be driven and she should give you many years of service.

Just got an 05 911S myself with 24,500 miles... just make sure you get a warranty. Many say that the garage queens have a higher chance for IMS issues. I already put 2,000 miles on mine and so far so good but ... the engines are expensive to replace if you are one of the unlucky ones to have an IMS failure ... Porsche will only cover 25% for affected VINs.
You can also call Porsche to find out if your 05 is an effected model for the IMS bearing. Regardless, i still say buy a warranty.
I love the car as I'm sure you will but, I would definitely get some sort of Powertrain warranty for the car. Good luck and hope to see some pix soon!!!

Well I also have 2008 911 S Cabriolet in (guess what) WHITE, she is absolute stunning if you have the right combination for it
Now I also bought warranty from Costco 6 years 60k miles for $3500 and that gave me a peace of mind. The cost far exceed my worrisome future engine failure. Costco is way better than fidelity coverage and they ask little questions when it time to pay out. My service advisor at Porsche of Honolulu told me they have paid over $18k for similar engine failure in the past without any hassle. I take his advice and purchased the extended warranty from Costco the same day I bought my car.

Very nice with the black stone guards. I'm warming up to white.
