Flatulent exhaust note

So…I was in Palo Alto all week, and took some time to hike “the dish” on the Stanford property. As we were leaving the parking area, I heard what I thought was one of those imports with the coffee can exhaust . As I turned to check the source, I was horrified to see it was a crème-colored 997 cab pulling away from the stop sign at the base of the park entrance. Disclaimer: my car has the factory PSE, so I am biased as to what is pleasing to the ear. I have never heard a Gundo hack. Is it possible that this was a similar modification job, or just a poorly engineered aftermarket unit?

I've got the Fister mod and it sounds identical to the PSE -- at least I can't tell the difference.

My Gundo sounds like PSE; I suspect it was a poorly executed aftermarket exhaust that you heard.

It was probably a home made attempt at fabricating an exhaust.

I was riding my motorcycle behind my Gundo hacked 911 yesterday (wifey was driving it) and I just couldn't get enough of the exhaust note on acceleration. And she only took it up to 4K rpm! That other car you heard certainly didn't have the Gundo hack. Gundo hack effectively replicates PSE (just always "on")

XXXREME is infamous around these parts
Is it possible you heard the sound of bypass pipes?

I'm considering bypass pipes from one manufacturer but not 100% whether I like the sound or not? They sound great at the track, similar to a Porsche Cup Car.

These kids today!

That was pretty great. Thanks for posting.

It reminded me of those crazy japanese VIP custom cars with the exhaust pipes from cartoon land.

Now THAT's some flatulent exhaust.

Not a gundo as I have one also which sounds just like your PSE.

RickinColorado:
That could be my exhaust you heard. Cream S cab / cocoa top. Turbo kit, Custom pipes, race cats, no mufflers. Loud and 'flatulent'. So I guess it's 'poorly engineered aftermarket'

Sounds like it could have been you, especially if you have recently turned left from the stop sign at the tee intersection across from the Dish trail entrance. Based on your description, it sounds like your turboed S goes like hell, even if, at that moment, it sounded the same way also.

I probably caught you at a weird just-off-idle flat spot.
