Service notification....
My 997 notified me that it's time to have the car serviced. It's just under 40k miles and this will be the first service since I bought it a year and a half ago. Is there a way I can tell what needs to be serviced?
The Porsche mechanic I called mentioned it probably is just due for an oil change...but I was wondering if there was a way I can get an idea if what needs to be done or do I basically just have to go by whatever the mechanic or dealership says?

Here's a link to the maintenance schedule. The major maintenance should have been completed at 4 years, but if you don't have the maintenance records stating it was done, I would recommend having it done now.

I just found a discrepancy on those two (2) documents.
The Major Maintenance is recommend at the following intervals:
Doc1: After 36,000, 72,000, 108,000, 144,000 miles etc.
Doc2: Major maintenance Maintenance* - every 40,000 miles or every4 years, where * = The ‘Minor maintenance’ and ‘Major maintenance’ were renamedas ‘Intermediate maintenance’ and ‘Maintenance’ in 2009.
There is a 4,000 mile discrepancy and its cumulative. So the 40,000 comes 4000 miles too late andthen then 80,000 is 8,000 miles too late and the 120,000 mile is 12,000 milestoo late, and so on.
Any idea why? Is onedocument older than the other? I guess the safest thing to do would be to use the most conservative schedule? Do you any other recommend maintenance schedules available for review?

Not sure. I found the Mx schedule through a quick google search. Maybe one of the boffins on the site can weigh in on the difference.

I wish I knew, but the Mx schedule (first) document is the same as what's listed in my Mx booklet that was part of the owner's manual packet ('07 C2S). I would follow it and use the second document as a guide for what to have checked since there is no proof that the major Mx was done. Just my $.02.

I'm looking at a 997.2 with 37k, but it is a CPO car.
Do you think the CPO will have considered the 40k maintenenace or am I looking at a service bill at 40k.
thanks

CPO is just an inspection, they don't always do maintenance. Those who are closed to $40K should only need an oil/filter change and a brake flush.

I'm not sure it matters so long as the difference is small. If its a 5-10% difference in time/mileage, and you don't drive your card hard, it is likely irrelevant.

I had early this year my 40k maintenance performed by the stealership which is for the '07 a major maintenance, so they did all the items listed in the major maintenance including spark plugs and had me quoted $1400 but after some negotiation offered to do it for $900.
