997.2s or 996tt

Hrllo to the board, came accross a 2010 c2s cab 6mt cpo'd 27,000 mile silver/black(not my first choice) for 63,000. Price seemes very reasonable although not my favorite color combination. The second car is a 2004 TT blue/tan tip 50k miles, asking 44,000(private owner) with accuate service history.

I guess my big question is, which car has better value? And which car will depreciate more over the next 3 years?

Those are two VERY different cars. I think the bigger question you need to ask, is which car you'd enjoy more. If you're in that $60K price range, there are a LOT of 911s out there to choose from, find a color combo and equipment level you like, don't settle.

I had the same decision to make and went the 997.2 route
The "newest" 996 you can get is now almost 10 years old and IMHO the 997.2 is a much more modern car. So for me it was no-brainer.

I'd vote 997.2 by far.
Much more modern and appealing car inside and out in my opinion.
It may not have the raw power of the turbo though.

997.2 for sure, as an '04 996 is almost 10 years old. Not that it necessarily a bad thing at all, but I personally prefer having a more modern design (especially regarding the interior of the 996)

You need to test drive both cars to see which you prefer.

The 996TT is a great all-weather sure-footed gruntfest, 2nd gear thrust and overtaking mid-range power is truly addictive.

But the 997.2 has better throttle response, more adjustability and sounds better. It is also more fuel efficient, much newer (remember Porsche do evolution better than any other company!) and has more recent tech and toys.

My vote would be with the other guys for 997.2.

Two totally different cars. Personally I'd go with the .2 car.

As for depreciation, the Turbo has already taken a big hit while the .2 still has a way to go. It depends mileage, but I would guess the .2 would take a ~15k loss over the next 3 years. The turbo most likely isn't going to go down too much more.

But really if you can afford $60k, depreciation shouldn't be your biggest concern.

I'd get the 2010 and find the color you really want. I love the 996TT but it's a whole other car and if you're considering a non-turbo, then we know you're not a boost junkie. Go with what you know

I received this book last week and it would definitely be beneficial for somebody looking and current owners. I highly recommend it.

I picked a 997.2 S over a 2007 Turbo, I wanted a CPO and although the Turbo is fast as can be most of the power is not usable on the road.

996 was not even in the cards, no chance.

Lol. If you think the 997.2 inferior is boring I'm curious to hear what your plans would have been for the 996 interior.

For me, I did not really get interested in porsche's till the 997.2's came out. The 993 aside, the 996 and 997.1 were over priced, under performing, and below average in technology compared to the competition. The 997.2 brought the 911 way above all its competition in all the areas I mentioned.

I remember owning a bmw 650i, and going to a porsche dealer to maybe trade it for a 997.1 C4S. I came away from that test drive really shocked. The 650 costs 35k less, was faster, much more comfortable, and had all the nice tech (NAV, Bluetooth, keyless entry and start, HUD, stereo). The handling of the C4S was horrible, its rear was hoping during aggressive cornering and it overall felt flimsy in comparison.

So I thought I would get the M6 or new M3 in 2009, but before doing that I read about the new changes to the 997.2 and went to test drive. They made such significant improvements over the .1 that I bought one within a few weeks of that test drive and have not looked at bmw since.

Hope that helps.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say there was something seriously wrong with that 997.1 C4S that you drove. While I do think the 650i is faster in a straight line, the 997.1 should hands down out handle the BMW. I'm talking on a track several seconds difference even with less power. A 997.1 has NAV as an option, HID lights standard, keyless entry standard, a moderate sounds system (i'm not a big fan of the Bose), and through simple integration with Tooki/Dension can have very good bluetooth and ipod connectivity.

I do think that they made some great improvements to the 997 with the 997.2 for sure but the 997.1 cars are still amazing machines.
