I spent some time with the same question.

From my understanding the 3rd radiator just gives you a larger heat sink and it really doesn't keep the tempertures down. It just takes it a lot longer to heat the water up to temp. You would have to be on the Track on a hot day to take advantage of this.

The Low Temp Thermostat gets coolant flowing earlier into the engine. This may or may not be a good thing. If this is a tight tolerance engine and too large of a temperature gradient having too many parts at different stages of thermal expansion could cause some damage. Its actually better to get the engine up to temperature quickly so the engine is running at temp and is fully expanded and the low temp thermostat inhibits this.

I'm sure others have different opions.

Mine was to stay OEM.

You can do a search on this site and/or Google which will result in great deal of information on the subject as it has frequently been discussed. I installed it on my C4S and it does what the standard radiators can not do and that is reduce oil temps on hot days or during sprited driving and greatly reduces the oil temp recovery times when it oil temp does spike. It does so by allowing the engines oil-to-water oil cooler to transfer heat from the oil to the cooling system more efficiently. The increased radiator surface area and more direct exposure to cooler outside air allowed by its front center placement which is not obstructured by the AC condensor coils as is the case with the stock radiators.

I did not install the low temp themo but there is an equal amount of info here and on the net on that subject as well.

I have the third radiator and live in Naples, FL where it is sometimes 100 degrees with 100% humidity. Even driving in bumper to bumper traffic or spirited cruising, my oil temp stays below 225.

I would advise that anyone have it installed on their car in a high heat situation.

I installed the 3rd radiator because I autocross and drive the occasional DE. If i did not do those, I wouldn't have done it.

It all depends on how and where you drive.

I don't have a 3rd radiator on my 2009 C2S, and the oil temperature has never gone beyond 225, even after spirited driving on sport mode. I think it may be beneficial to those who track their cars.

I don't have a 3rd radiator and I live in the Phoenix, Arizona area where the temps regularly get over 110 and I have not had any problems. Coolant stays rock steady at 175 and oil temp varies between 225-250. I don't track my car.

250 is too high , 275 is way too high. Track cars push that temp but then they change oil after every outting. Street car shouldn't hit 250 regardless of conditions.

250 is quite normal if you drive your car hard or track it. Street cars can hit 250 no problem, you just have to drive it the way it was intended.

What is the purpose of the low temp thermostat?

It seems the car was built the way it is intentionally to let the car get to operating temperature quickly, then once it's there it opens up the floodgates so to speak, and increases its cooling capacity. Getting a low temp thermostat as far as I can tell would just cause the car to take even longer than it already does to get to temp. Am I missing something?

I'm glad to hear it but my car has never passed 225 since I've owned it

I've only rarely noticed 250 on the hottest of days where the ambient temp was over 115 and I had the A/C on and sitting at a stop light or not moving very fast with limited airflow. When it gets that hot outside I just stop driving my car to work because it's just too damn hot to drive a black car and leave it parked outside baking in the sun all day. Driving home after work is miserable and the A/C can't overcome the convection heat coming off every surface.
