Mobil 1 vs Castrol Synthetic Oil
I just got my first oil change on my new to me 2009 C4S with 11,000 miles. My dealer said they prefer Castrol over Mobile 1. Should I be concerned about them not using Mobil 1? Thanks, Jeff

I wouldn't be concerned. I believe Castrol is an approved Porsche oil. Also, I haven't run Mobil 1 for years. I use either ENEOS 5w40, or Liqui Moly 5w40.

castrol edge syntec all the way for me, the p-car dealer here uses it as well here.
a40 approved and the oil does well in the hard core oil performance tests (even against mobil1).
if i wasnt running syntec edge i would likely be running motul excess 8100.

If the oil is ordered from a local oil distributor it is probably cheaper than ordering the oil from PCNA and having it shipped to the dealer.
My dealer sources tell me the shipping costs are horrific for anything shipped from one of PCNA's regional warehouses. PCNA uses several shippers instead of working with one exclusively and arranging to get a better price on shipping.
There is a benefit, and that is the wait for parts is often very short. Order by 11am one day and receive the part the next day. I've been told it is not unknown for the dealer to get 2 sometimes 3 different deliveries in one day, all from a different shipper.
Some dealers eat the cost of the shipping. Some do not. It varies.
As for Castrol vs. Mobil as long as the Castrol oil is on the approved list that's all that I think matters.
Personally I would not be at all bothered if my local dealer the next time I had one of my cars in for an oil/filter service told me it has switched from using Mobil 1 to Castrol.
In fact, if I have an oil preference (at one service interval I mentioned maybe switching to Mobil 1 5w-50 (not a typo for 15w-50!), the SM told me if I give him some advance notice he can request an oil from an auto supply store and it will be delivered by the auto supply store and that oil will be used instead of Mobil 1. The price is not marked up any based on what I was told. The delivery is provided by the auto supply store at no additional cost.

Appreciate the feedback. I think my dealer said that P-Cars were burning more oil with Mobil 1, which I would find hard to believe.

I've been using motul xcess 8100 5w40 for awhile with good results but I just tried out a new indie shop closer to the house and they wanted me to try Total. I read good reviews to I had them swap it out. I'll change it out after my next de event and send it of for analysis and see what happens.

Always had oil changed before and was 0w40, at a dealer.
Took to my Indy and he put in 5w40.
Searched online and sounds ok.
He said they always and only use 5w40.
Not loosin sleep over it, just curious why?
