Keeping both my 911's, but just ordered a Stingray
Hey guys,
I have always been a huge Porsche (911 specifically) lover and loyalist. I've got a red '87 Carrera 3.2 and a black '05 Carrera S. The '05 has now been on the road nearly 10 years, and has almost 75k miles on it, so I felt the urge for a new car. I looked at new 911's, Boxster's, Cayman, etc., but I ultimately decided to order a:
2014 Corvette Stingray.
I expect this will repulse some people here, unfortunately. I have NEVER ever even considered a Corvette before, but this new one is so radically different, it got me. I think I am exactly the kind of buyer GM is hoping for: 911 owners who are willing to overlook the Corvette stereotype/ stigma (you know, old guys with gold chains, mustaches, and anchor tattoos).
But with the 2014 C7 Stingray, the styling, and the performance are world class, and the technology it comes with are incredible. Forget that it's a $70k car (as I've configured it), it's a tremendous sports car at ANY price.
The guys on the Corvette forums don't like Porsche, and it seems the Porsche guys don't like Corvette guys. I wonder if this will lead me to an identity crisis.
Since my order likely won't be delivered for several months, I can't post photos, but here's what mine will look like. I intentionally went for a "look at me" color combo:

Congrats cattman! The stingray has been getting good reviews. I too was considering this car it's great value and performance. Your lucky to keep your p cars and you have the perfect combination of old and new. I'd really like to hear how you like the stingray once you get some miles on it. Did you have to pay over msrp?

Cattman, congrats! No identity crisis as I see it. Vette and 911 cover a lot of the basics of performance, heritage, and real world fun!
Here is my latest "crisis".....

And +1 again... did you have to pay over MSRP? Wife wants one, too.

Congrats!
Honestly, first sports car I saw was a Stingray in my pre-teens years. At that moment I told myself I will have one.
I haven't owned one and will probably buy the new Stingray next year. As said above, it has been getting great reviews. I'll consider the 2nd or 3rd year of production.
Congrats and good luck!

I put $1k down toward my order, which came to $68,450 at MSRP, not a penny over. Of course, it's being built for me with my order specs, so I will consider myself lucky to receive it by March.

Great looking car! Before my recent Porsche purchase I did a lot of research on the C7 and was planning to purchase one. I have always liked the Vettes with their impressive price per performance value and the C7 is the complete package. I then test drove some Porsches and that sold me on my first 911. Couldn't be happier!
I don't know why there should be animosity between the 2 camps as there is plenty to appreciate about both brands. Congrats again on your C7! Can't wait for the pics.

I've been lucky enough to sit in two Stingrays since they have been out. One of my friends ordered his HIGHLY optioned in Cyber Gray over Red and it is gorgeous! I love the platform and how the car looks small in person. Congrats!

I really like the new Corvette !!! Much like you it's a car that I never had cared for in the past generations . I saw this beautiful white one and was amazed by the styling and interior upgrades . Add to the mix I am not thrilled with the new 991 . I do love my Boxster S (one name you mentioned ) though and even though its not as fast as a Vette it's one of most balanced car i have ever owned . Plus the technology in the new Porsches is incredible .
My only doubts about the vette are : 1) how it will wear over time and 2) reliability . I am optimistic though about each but i simply don't know as the car is new .
This is a photo of the white car that got me to notice .

So did you test drive one?? I know that's an elementary question, but I'm curious what you thought? And the fact that many dealers don't have a demo...Looks like you've got a pretty hot SC 997 so there had to be something other than looks to drive you?
Having just paid a little less than that for a my 2009 C2S I was not disappointed in the least in my decision after seeing C7. That said, I would not have been able to ever let it go if I bought anything else other than 997.2 C2S. I spent a bazzilion hours the last few years over at Corvetteforum, but that all changed last year after test driving a new Grandsport C6 and a couple of 997's back to back...zero doubt in my mind the car I HAD to have. Now that I have this car I can take in whatever comes along, so I'm excited to drive a C7! I think the car you ordered is EXACTLY what I would have done! My neighbor just ordered a Silver one...he is corvette guy, owns a 78 pace car and an 80 coupe as well.
