200 Cell Cats

200 Cell Cats
I need input from those who know. I am about to pull the trigger on an X pipe with high flow cats. I am currently running factory headers and PSE exhaust. I am told these will be an excellent upgrade in my exhaust note. They are made by Innotech Performance Exhaust. Please let me know if I'm spending wisely or wasting my money.

Believe it or not, I upgraded my cats to 200 X pipes and the exhaust tone (with PSE) actually got quieter. It was really disappointing as I wanted to car to get louder, not quieter. It seems the design of the two banks mixing the output at one point counter act the noise by canceling each other. I was so frustrated that I went with muffler bypass. Now, I am happy.

The guy from IPE says that I should see modest horse power gains and about 12 decibels increase in sound. I cannot imagine swapping out factory resonators for high flow cats resulting in a quieter note. If that's the case I'll be quite pissed.

being that mine is an 07 997.1 it does not have the same set up as a .2. Not center bypass or center muffler. I will report the outcome.

Actually it was only ~ 30 Porsche enthusiasts. I couldn't imagine being best in the universe…big shoes to fill.

I have a 997.1.
I enjoyed the PSE sound before the cat's upgrade. I liked the increase flow and final horsepower but disliked the sound. With PSE it sounded nice at all RPMs on the power band, we X Pipes, only was when I punched the car hard.
Manufacturers will tell you anything to make a sale.

I actually just changed out my stock cat sections with a X-Pipe with 200 cell cats. I have a 997.1S with sport exhaust not PSE. I have stock headers and mufflers and the sound definetly increased (it's still far from being loud). I also put in a pannel BMC while I was at it. You can also definetly feel the performance gains. I can feel the gains at low mid and high RPM.
The section you are removing does not have any resonnators. There are actually no resonators on these cars. You have the headers, cats and then the bi-mufflers.
Make sure to soak the bolts on the cat sections with liquid wrench or something. They are almost always jammed up. I did not soak them because I did not really care about snapping a few of the studs since I was not re-using the cat sections. I snapped 3 out of 6 of them. If ever I re-install the stock cats I will repress new studs in place....
Thanks,
MArk
