2006 997 C4S Price Check
Hello. I'm new to the forum and in the market for my first 911. I have found a car I like, but am unsure if where I've landed with the dealer on price is a good deal. Here's the particulars:
2006 C4S
Gray/Gray
6-Speed
Just about 40,000 miles on it
CarFax One Owner
Well optioned...$113k original MSRP
New tires
Brake pads @ 85%
40,000 mile service completed
Porsche Approved
Northeast car
Sitting at $49,000 with the dealer saying that's it. Good deal?
Thanks!

It sounds like a pretty decent deal. Is it CPO? I'd ask if the clutch and/or water pump has been replaced at all (if service records available). Those are the two major maintenance items that are coming up. For some reason, many 911 owners burn through their clutches by the 50k mark (no idea why this is the case). Water pumps go bad as early as 30k -- up to 100k. It's really hit or miss.
Good luck!

I think it is a reasonable deal with CPO as long as the car has a good service history and DME check out. If possible ask them for a PPI even if the car is sold by dealership. I know people get burn by lemon car being sold at a dealer. Can't take the salesman words for it, they all lies to their teeth. Another thing the salesman DOES NOT know the car, he just selling the car in their lot. They are not approve Porsche technician.

So the dealer is pushing back on the DME report saying it's only needed for cars that have been tracked (of course saying this one has not been). Red flag, or the dealer trying to prevent further tech time cost to pull the report?

Thanks cab83_750. Appreciate the advice on the PPI and DME report. What are your thoughts on the $49k price?

If they refused to give you the DME or CERTIFY PORSCHE TECHNICIAN PPI, they certainly have something to hide???? May be or may be not, but P ride are expensive to repair and for a peace of mind, I want a complete PPI because it tell you what almost wear down and what need to fix now, so you can gage how much more you need to pay down the road to keep the car maintain properly. DME reports is also important bc I could overrev anywhere and not necessary on the track. But if you willing to spend $50k for a used 911, there are a lot of cars out there to choose from. If dealer can't meet your expectations the wait for another one. Unless this is a must have car for you

I have simliar car/mileage. I just replaced my water pump. Cost $1,500. Also had new spark plugs, ignition coils and fuel filter for around $600.
I'd just inquire then set aside some funds for future maintenance. Seems like a good deal though.

The alternator harness replacement would only effect slow startup after the engine is warm. It is a common know issue. Would not effect any other electrical issues by replacement.
You should be adamant about getting a DME report. It is not an unreasonable request.

It literally takes minutes to have their tech hookup the car to PIWIS (porsche computer system), and get a download of the DME report. HOWEVER, dealers are generally more adamant about doing this and allowing you to send the car out for a PPI. Obviously if it was a private party sale, this would be a non-issue (otherwise seller is hiding something). I'm not as keen on what is covered under CPO, but it seems to be a safe choice given that you review all the T&C's.

Quite honest---49k for an 06C4S is a very nice deal. Being CPO'd is even better. I'd say let it rip.
1 owner cars are very hard to find in the P car used market FYI.
Also on the DME---it takes 15mins...sounds fishy to me...but being CPO'd I wouldn't really care one way or another...the CPO tells me to drive it like it was new---like you stole it
Good luck and hope you get the keys...looking forward to seeing pictures of the beast.

I disagree with CPO car does not come with issues. There are several threads about new owner CPO cars after as early as a week or a few months the clutch went out or brake pads went out. These repair bill ranging from $1000-$4000 for clutch jobs or if you're unlucky to replace both you're looking minimum $5k repair bill. So what PPI do is tell you these potential hidden issue that does not cover in CPO cars, also DME tell you the potential of abusive track racing previous owner(s). Good luck with buying your new porsche, it is truly an amazing car but ünderstand the repair cost is expensive.
