Old Question, New Timing, Model Chioce

Hi Guys,

Still looking for my first "P." Budget versus wants as usual. Looking for updated input on a 09 base (PDK) versus 08 S (6 Speed Man). Similar options, miles, wheels, and the 09 is actually less $ by a couple thou. Always wanted the manual, but read such good things about PDK. Pretty much thought I should go "S" as this might be a one time purchase. Base '09 seems so close though, with newer "stuff." Should I worry about the first year PDK, new engine versus last gen 997.1? Wondering if the market will be flooded with base '09's and that's why the '08 S will cost/maintain more value. Thanks for your thoughts.

I have a 2009 S PDK and no issues at all. I love the PDK, specially with sport chrono. I don't know about 2009's flooding the market, since Porsche sold only a few 2009, due to the economy.

I'd go with the 09 base pdk. Better engine and electronics. Right or wrong the stigma associated with the IMS will never completely go away. If the car doesn't have sport Chrono it can be added.

As far as the pdk goes it appears to be pretty robust.

09 was a low production year, so the market is not loaded with them. my 09 has been near perfect. I do have a 6 speed.
I d worry more about the 997.1 engine than I would the 997.2 PDK.

Get the 09 new engine which so far seems to be bullet proof. PDK is great. I have driven manuals for year but no more. I think they are circling the drain and will be extinct in a few years. Please no flames just my opinion.

No doubt that buying a new car with a manual will be harder (just look at the 2014 GT3), but I think that people will tend to covet existing manuals.

I agree that the 6 speeds will be much harder to find causing them to hold value due to their lack of numbers.
There are some that will always opt for the 6 speed even if it s not the most advanced equipment.
