Diy on defroster vents removal?
Iv searched... No cake. Can any of our brothers share how to remove the defroster vents? No i am not upgrading them to leather ones, i just scratched up the soft touch paint and want to fix. That paint is so fragile! I guess that is why they call it soft touch. Touch them softly or else they will get damaged.

i replaced my warped CF defroster vents on 07 TT-found a diy online but can't find it- I pulled out the A pillar by window area-pulled them out/down- came off easily with hard tug- these need to come off as there is tab where defroster trim meets A pillar- Carefully pry up the center speaker cover that's in middle between the 2 defroster trims- then the defroster trim is easily removed by gently prying around it- i used a plastic trim tool set- be careful with middle speaker cover it's easy to mess that up- rest is easy 15 minutes total to put in 2 new defroster trims with no prior experience. search on few forums for defroster trim- that's how i found instructions.

1. remove a-pillar covers
2. use trim tool to remove existing trim pieces, IIRC you may need to start with center speaker cover.
3. drop in replacements (clipped in)
4. replace a-pillar covers
You need to remove the pillar covers because the a-pillar side of the defrost trim pieces has a clip that rests just inside the a-pillar cover. Trying to pry it out could cause heartache, and removing the a-pillar cover is a breeze. On scale of 1 to 10, 10 being most difficult, I give this a 1. (and I have removed and/or replaced almost every interior part in my 997).
good luck.

wow these are comforting words. now i am not bothered with the soft touch paint that i messed up in the interior. its in the window vent covers. i though they were an integral part of the dash at first which required dash removal to repaint. but now with the information here…all is well
