Tires for the 997
Hi Guys,
It's time to replace the original Pirelli's on my car and I am interested in hearing everyone's suggestions in terms of which brand/model of tire I should go with. This car is mainly driven on weekends.
I don't necessarily need to stick with 'N' rated tires and open to other brands like Hankook, etc...
Thanks!

I just switched from Pirelli Rossos to Michelin Pilot Super Sports (not N rated) and the difference is drastic. The Michelins are fantastic. They are smoother and quieter and supposedly last longer. I compared the Michelins, Pirellis and Bridgestones (old personal favorite) and the tire rack ratings of the Michelins outshines the others. They are quite a bit less expensive than the hard driving Pirellis. Only problem is they are on back order and a little more difficult to get quickly.

just because you brought up the hankooks, the V12 Evos are a great value (i've had them on two BMWs including an M3), but the sidewalls were a bit too soft to my liking, so the handling seemed to suffer. Adding a few extra PSI helped that...
I really think the Michelin PS2s are a great option. The rears are around $450 though.
Bridgestone RE-11s are supposed to be awesome, but I haven't had personal experience so won't share any opinion.
Nitto Invo's are also relatively popular and a tire I've wanted to try out. Very unique tread pattern.
It really [and always] comes down to money. Obviously you can go for value, or spend a lot (like a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup). If it was me, I'd stick with the Michelin PS2s for a weekend driver.
Hope that helps!

i have the hankook ventus v12 and they suit my needs just fine. i'm not racing or driving super aggressively so i dont under a ultra performance tire. with that being said, everyone here seems to like the pilot super sports and i'll probably get those as my next set.

I'm with steve-o on this one. Bought Michelin Pilot SS and never looked back. Handle predictably, smooth and quiet. I'm sure they will be fine for my occasional track days as well. A surprisingly reasonable price, that was unexpected: about $1,000 M&B with road hazard warranty.

I have Hankooks, and I'm quite pleased with them all around. Good grip and wear, and the price is pretty unbeatable for the quality they deliver. You can't go wrong with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, either.

I just put new Pirells OEMS back on the rear and after reading this I realize I should have gone with those other tires mentioned here, esp since I am in cold snow weather.
OP er please keep us posted as to what you think after you make your choice.
Anyone in my area want to buy (pickup) my new OEM rear Pirelli tires?
