997.2 C2S vs 2014 Cayman S

Have been looking around for 09-10 C2S and then saw the new Cayman S this weekend up close. I like the looks much better than the previous generation. I have not driven one but it definitely got my interest up. I am interested in hearing opinions on the comparison of these two cars. I would use either as a weekend fun car and take it to the track a couple of times a year.

Do a search here. Has been talked about lots. C2s gets my vote.

If you got both cars together I think the re sale value on the c2S would hold better than the new Caymen. IMO.

997.2 c2s. the new cayman is fantastic but its still no 911... a 997.1 vs new cayman is a harder choice but if its the 997.2 with dfi/led lights/updated looks/updated bluetooh and electronics the choice is pretty easy.

I've owned an 09 Cayman S, an 09 Carrera S and my current 11 GTS. When I purchased the Cayman S I was also looking at a 997.1 Carrera S. I went with the Cayman S. I recently drove a 14 Cayman S with PDK and it is a very nice car. Which one should you get? The one that puts the biggest smile on your face. If you are leaning towards PDK I think the newer version, the one in the new Cayman, is a better choice. You've got a tough decision and a bit of homework to do.

Very tough question.
997.2 is more of a purists car (especially 6MT). 14 Cayman S will be very close in performance, maybe even the same, more refined, more docile and more modern technology.
997.2 has gotten its depreciation, may be facing higher upkeep within the 4-5 next years.
Cayman S , little or no upkeep over the next 4 years (at the price of hard depreciation)
At the end you need to use following equation:
Smiles + $$= total grade

$$ comes and goes, smiles stay in your brain.
I still remember very well, in 1984, when I drove one of my dad's friend's metallic blue 911 SC!
:-)

I really had not considered the Cayman until I saw the 2014. I wasn't fond of their looks but boy does this new one change my opinion! Then I stared looking at pricing and for not too much more you can have an almost new car. I definitely want to drive one. Thanks for your comments and input thus far.

wow. you 911 boys are harsh.

different strokes for different folks I guess. BTW, I have one of the "ugly" 987.1 Cayman Ses. Lol. Best looking P-car made IMHO.

That said, I have considered switching to a 997.2 to get THE car Porsche is known for.

Georgia has a wide variety of terrain. If you are nearer the coast, get the C2S. If you want a weekend fun car for the Georgia/TN mountains, buy the Cayman.

Ask yourself this... Have you always wanted a 911? If so, you almost HAVE to get a 911 or you'll always wonder. No question the new Cayman is an awesome car and probably easier to drive hard than a 911, especially if you don't care to learn the 911. Honestly now that I finally own a 911 I could sell it and go drive some other cars knowing that I have had my dream/want car. If I had bought a Cayman, no doubt I would have been sniffing around the P car dealer within a few months, still wondering about that 911. Find a 997 S, manual, with CPO and try not to pay too much. I can promise you this...you will LOVE the car and have no regrets (or at leas not more regrets than any other major purchase). And if you do you'll have guys lined up to buy it.

I drove a bunch, and ended up buying a very clean, low-miles '08 997.1 C2S instead of ordering a Cayman S. I found very nearly the exact car I wanted (options, color, etc.), though, so it's hard to say that anyone else would make the same decision. Had there been a 981S Cayman on the lot that was as close to my "wish list" as the C2S was, I might have gone the other way...
