Aftermarket stand alone Sirius/XM
Hey guys..
I have a 2012 997 with Bose, but unfortunately, not XM, which is dearly missed.
Has anyone installed, or have professionally installed an external stand alone Sirius/XM receiver? If so, where do you mount it? How tough was the install?
The cost of a double-din replacement is not an option now, so i'm leaning towards this scenario.
Thoughts, feedback, and suggestions are welcome.
Happy Holidays,

I have a 2009 that didn't have Sirius - so I had the Nav-TV SiriusXM installed and it works just like OEM - everything is on the screen and even shows on the dash if you choose.
No wires showing at all...looks like it came direct from factory.
I've had it installed for about 4 months now and it's amazing! Go do it now!
Total price for everything and installed was around $1000 I believe.

No, the 2009 - 2012 are the exact same car (997.2) with the same PCM Radio set up. :-)

Since your vehicle probably has Bluetooth I would recommend signing up for the online XM service and then streaming it via Bluetooth. No additional hardware to purchase and you can use in any of your vehicles and in the house. Works like a champs and cost effective!!

It's really easy. If you have an iPhone, just go to the App Store and download the XM app(free). Go online and signup for their online service (I think it's about $20per month. Once you have a user ID and password, sign into via the app. To get the music to stream, pair your phone to the car (which you already did). Once you open the app and start streaming, you car will recognize it. The concept is the same as you using your phone now but only with the XM app. Hope that helps.

no ,, i don't stream my phone to music now.
i just downloaded the app, and it gave me a warning that "this app uses lots of data." hmmm. wonder if my data plan will exceed my limits having this app play music to the car.
great idea, now i just have to do some homework to see if it makes sense.
thanks for your help.

That is so weird! Just 4-5 months ago when I got mine I just told them I had a 997.2, they had me check something on my PCM system to verify I could use it and that was it. I don't recall having to give them what year 997.2 I had. I hate to hear that for you.

I was told we can't use Bluetooth to stream audio with our PCM 3.0 radio...it only works for phone calls.
You can however download the XM app like the guy above suggested and plug in your iPhone or iPad to the AUX input and listen that way.
