09 C4S CPO with Bad Carfax??

I have been driving these cars for 15 years and have owned more than 10. Recently came across an 09 C4S 38k miles at a dealer who said they will CPO the car even though it has accident on carfax. They told me they personally know the car and the driver hit a mile marker on NJ Turnpike that damaged the wheels and scratched rear quarter, Police were called and report was filed. Looking to sell me the car for 59k Certified. Is this a good deal? Should I overlook the Carfax as the new CPO would trump the carfax??

Subjective topic so you'll get replies all over the map on this. Some people won't touch a car that had a bumper resprayed because of rock chips. Others could care less if the damage is known, documented and not extensive, especially if the dealer stands behind it with CPO coverage. I'm in that camp so I say go for it if you like the car and the price. No details about the car except mileage so I won't comment on the price.

I'm sure you know you'll have to sell that story to the next owner. I'd make sure it checks out... eg pics or paint meter and thorough PPI.

I agree the price is right. Do a PPI and make sure there is not more to the story.

I personally would not do it. The story is third hand. Often repeated "there are alot of really nice p-cars for sale". Pass.

The dealer will lie to your face to sell a car. Without pictures of that accident they describe there's no way to know. I Don't know if I could do it.

What discount does that history and doubt make it worth it for you?

You seem to turnover your cars pretty quickly, therefore you may be concerned with resale value. Consider this issue.

I keep my cars a long time and drive them year around. My last Porsche I got 197K miles and had three hoods and bumpers due to real life stuff. So for me, minor body and paint work is no issue.

Peace

It is not a big deal to me, as long as it was only a ding or scrape that needed to be fix.

Tell the dealer to put you in touch with the previous owner.

Same issue for me when I got my 07. Carfax showed an accident and I questioned. I trusted the dealer when he informed me that the accident was a shopping cart in a parking lot and the passenger door had to be resprayed.

Now they didn't offer the car CPO, I would of had to pay for that, but with only 18k on the odometer I didn't really care. I get it that some salesmen will lie to sell the car but it's up to you to believe the story.

Some are way too judgmental about some things, but if it works for them great. I replaced my front bumper because of the plate holes from previous owner, so unless I mention it at time of sell....who would know? Up to you OP....I think a good PPI would make you feel better about it.
