WHEELS Wheels wheels what to do?
Hi Everyone
I got an extra bonus on top of my bonus this year... woohoo. So I'm seriously considering a set of wheels for my 997.1. The thought of spending > $5000.00 on wheels seems so wrong to me (mostly wasteful considering I'm not likely to track my car). But at the same time I know myself and if I go for some inexpensive cast wheels I'll probably still be longing for a light forged set that looks awesome. So I think I've mostly convinced myself to spend the extra to get the forged wheels.
That said, what to choose. Now I really really like the HRE P40 in bright silver and think the contrast would go well with my Carmon Red 997. But I've recently seen some nice wheels at Champion. So I'm looking to hear your thoughts on why one wheel might be better than the other (besides looks, I think I can deal with that part on my own). Weight, strength, warranty, reliability, dependability of the manufacturer: are the things I'm mostly curious about.
Champion RF67
Champion RS171
Champion RS98
HRE P40
I've never seen the Champion wheels in person, so its a little hard to tell, but I think my two favorites are the RS98 and the P40. I live in the L.A. area and think Wheel Enhancement can get both HRE and Champion. Does anyone know of a place where I can see the Champion wheels in person? Is there any other shop that I should be looking for that might be able to get me a better price?
I'll be buying 19" wheels and a set of Michelin Super Sports to go with them. Are there any options for a narrow body C2 for going with a wider wheel than OEM?
Thanks, Derek

If the P40s werent HRE, would you still want them? IMO getting overplayed, also too many rip offs.
Those rs98s are nice!

I've owned champion rs97 and now HRE C97. Love them both but more importantly you have chose two of the best quality wheel producers on the market. You can't go wrong. I recently had an issue that was resolved by HRE extremely quickly under warranty at no cost to me.

I put 40K miles on a set of RS98's on my -06 C4S and they looked good as new. Approaching 20K miles on a set of P40's now and they're holding up every bit as good. Whichever style you choose from either of these two brands you'll get among the very best there is in the wheel market. Absolutely no comparison between a $1,500 set of wheels and a $5,000 set. You can tell just by looking at them once you're within 6'.

For a medium price range in between your window, consider Victor Equipment. They have designs 1 piece look and 2-3 piece look. They have a new one called the Kronen which is actually really nice in silver/polish lip and would complement your color well.

Your in a difficult hole brother. I was in that place before i got my set. Rs98s or hrep40s. Both look extremely well with the 997. Both are good quality. I think the 98s have a more traditonal look with the lip. The p40 a more modern look. If your going with the traditonal silver or bright color id go with the 98s with the bright chrome lip. If you are going with the modern gun metal or platinum color id go with the p40's....

P40 and Carmon Red 997... yum:
As for size, no need to go w/ wider wheels as OEM 19" specs are plenty. That said, just make sure you get correct offsets as the OE specs leave them tucked in a little too much.
