Question 2006 997 C4S - memory seat issue

Hello chaps,

I have a bit of an issue with the memory seats in my 2006 997 C4S.

Having read the relevant section of the manual (about 20 times) and browsed various forums, I am still unable to cause my driver seat to remember the correct position when I unlock the car. Whenever I unlock it (using the zapper), the seat goes all the way back, which, given that I am 5'8", is not ideal. I have tried setting the memory on buttons "KEY 1", "2" and "3", but to no avail. I have even removed the memory button unit from the door to double check the wiring is intact (which it is).

Turning the key (so the electrics come on), putting the seat in the correct position, holding 'memory' and then pressing "KEY 1" (or "2" or "3) does not appear to be storing anything (there is no audible tone or any indication that anything has been stored, either).

I wondered whether anyone would mind taking a video of the process they follow with their 997 so I can have a go at replicating the process? In the event that doesn't work, it is back to the garage!

Many thanks!

Got the same issue in my 2006 c2s but I do remember it functioned properly some time ago. Basically right now it seams that the memory buttons don't work at all. I'm suspecting front module to be defective since I've also noticed lack of light in the trunk (checked the bulb and it's ok) and lack of anti fog lights in front (checked the bulbs and rear works fine). When I was playing with durametric I could turn the lights on through the computer. Didn't have a chance to visit dealer since he replaced my front module already.

Could be a software gremlin. Try disconnecting the negative battery cable for a 10 minutes and reattaching and then go through the memory routine again. Won't hurt anything and might just fix the issue if it's software related.

Funny! This is the first step when investigating electrical problems in passenger jets, namely MD-80's and Boeing 737's.

I am assuming that when you say Zapper, you are referring to your key.

Your key may have been programmed to move your seat when you unlock your car. If so, clear the position by
1. Switch the ignition on with the desired vehicle key
2. Press memory button twice and key button 1 once consecutively.

See page 37 of the Manual.

Hope this helps.

Having same problem, the pg37 remedy did not work. Memory button works, but does not react to unlocking vehicle withnp key.
