Check Engine after Car Wash

This is only the second time this has happened... the first, cleared after 20 minutes of running.

After the car wash, the check engine light came on intermittently then locked in; the car ran rough at low RPM and better at high RPM but still not normal.

I just had the plugs replaced and Porsche said the ignition coil packs were fine.

I've seen some threads about checking the throttle body connector... any thoughts?

Mike

Automated car wash or manual car wash? Is the water going inside the engine? Buy Durametrics --- it pays itself quickly.

Disconnect the battery, wait a few minutes and reconnect. See if the CEL goes away.

Automatic carwash... not sure about water in engine.

After more than an hour of running, still unbalanced.

CEL comes and goes, but car is misfiring.

Just got off the Durametric site bought the kit.

Off to Porsche Monday...

thanks,

M

Belt got water on it and slip causing rough idle and maybe a little squeal upon startup?

Porsche recommends against running these cars though automated car washes. Your issue could be the reason why.

Bet the plugs got wet. Wait for the car to dry...leave deck lid open and then run after a few hours...you will be fine. I always hand wash my car. Automated washes spray too much water.

after changing plugs myself it hard to believe they could get wet.
Maybe it has nothing to do with the wash this time? Keep us posted.

I hope it's just water.

Not on the 997, but I used to have a Z that would stutter, hesitate, etc for days every time I wash the engine.
