That said, fantastic review of the C7, and for the most part I agree that the 997S is more the car for me.

Here's why:
-the 997S seems to intuitively know what I want it to do at exactly the moment I want to do it, and is always, without fail, right there with me.
-the C7 forums are an absolute joke. There are some people who post well-thought-out comments, but the vast majority seem to be old, angry, rude, people, who have no life. Just my opinion, but as a 6Speed member for ages, hitting the C7 forums was a wake up call.

But I can tell you that this C7 (with Z51) kicks *** over my modified 997S, in a straight line, around a track, in the ****pit, with technology, on the stereo, etc. And everyone loves it. It's new, so still rare, but everywhere I go, I get thumbs up. Never knew how much love there was for the 'Vette, and always felt "special" in my 997S, but the Stingray is a whole other level of love, from all demographic segments.

I love the Stingray, but my 997S fits me like a glove. They are the SAME length! They weigh the same, and while the Stingray out-handles the 997S, the 997S feels better- to me. What can I say. Number are on the side of the 'Vette, but my emotions are with the 997S, even with mine being nearly 10 yrs old with 77k miles.

Here's a pic. I do think it screams "look at me!", but so does a lambo. It gets the attention because it really looks dramatic.

Great thoughts, thank for sharing!!!

Just to clarify your saying a stock Z51 C7 is faster than a Supercharged 997?? Something sounds off there, can that really be true?

That I don't know. I was referring to it without the SC.

I guess the C7 is such a hit that Chevy is increasing the price by $2,000.00.

Sounds like $2000 is just the base price. Z51 and performance options also increased $1500-4000. http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...price-increase

Considering you could buy a pretty well equipped 6C Grand Sport for under $48k with all the $12k rebates, the true entry price of the C7 has gone up closer to $20k if you're willing to pay MSRP. If I were going to get one, now (or last fall) would be the time. After this year they're going to be EVERYWHERE and playing-out fast IMO.

Funny where I live there are probably 15 Porsche dealers within a 50 mile radius, which is nothing compared to how many Chevy dealers (not to mention the largest corvette dealer in the country is in Atlantic City), but for every corvette I see on the road I see 25 Porsche's, and 90% of the Chevy dealers have less than 2 of them in stock. I have heard that statement they will be everywhere before and where ever everywhere is. it is not where I am.

The Stingrays are selling very quickly in my area. (south west of Chicago) I like the car and would consider one in a few years. But I prefer to wait and let someone else take the big hit on depreciation. Nice as the C7 is, it will never replace my C4S.

Not trying to offend - but I view vettes as red neck cars.

That said, the stingray is the only one I've ever seen that I'd consider buying.

Cattman - yours looks sick! But when you comment on the two - keep in mind you are not driving the 911 the rest of us are.

For 1/2 the price (my cab with wheels etc had MSRP of $125k) the stinger is a bad *** hot looking performance car.

Haven't driven one, but the the look makes it worth every penny

Lol. Again, not intended offensively. Read the former posts about intelligence etc of vette owners. My comment wasn't as derogatory. And who says being a red neck is an insult?
I know plenty of red necks that are proud to be called so.

Relax. It's an Internet forum.

In all seriousness, there is probably some truth to that. And if you compare cost of living in the midwest/south to the East or West coasts, there is certainly more money to be spent on a Porsche vs much lesser priced Corvette. Here in KC you can buy a brand new well appointed 3600 sq. ft. 2 story home with 3 car garage for under $500k in a popular area...less in some areas. So buying a $120k car seems "crazy" to most. Where if you live in a pedestrian smaller home for $1.2 M on the Coast then you're probably making more to begin with and that car doesn't seem so crazy.

I think we have ONE Porsche dealership in a 150 mile radius of KC!? Here you see FAR more Corvettes than 911's.

And I've mentioned this before, if you poll 100 C7 purchasers to see if they have ever driven a modern 911 or even test drove similarly priced "used" Porsches before they bought the vette I bet that figure would hover in the "count on one hand" category. Most will never consider buying used when they can buy their "lifelong dream" brand new from Chevy. And I get that, I made the other choice and have ZERO regrets. The brand loyal corvette guy, blinders on mentality is just annoying and driving me away from the brand more and more. Too many kickass cars these days to be like that.

true but i think the same holds for porsche owners. My first Porsche was a new 2002 Boxster S. I participating in a boxster forum (dont remember the name). I made a few comments of how no, the boxster is not the perfect car or something like that. It was crazy how many people pounced on me. Like its blasephemy to say anything but "The boxster is the king of all cars etc...."
I LOOOOOVE my 911...ive owned bmw and a CLS63 AMG and 3 porsches (box s, 997.1 S cab and 997.2 S cab) I hope im fortunate enough to always be driving a porsche. But i ackowledge that better cars exist. The 911 is not perfect. But right now, its perfect for me!
