Hill Country Porsche is, in fact, mostly folks from Austin (and suburbs). The group is pretty active on their mailing list / forum but don't do a lot of organized drives together mostly due to a lack of leadership in getting them organized. A friend of mine from work has been a member for a several years and said the guy who used to organize drives and events moved away about two years ago. The big spring "Bluebonnet Tour" almost didn't come together last year until someone else stepped up and organized the thing but it was very well attended. The one for this year is coming up March 29. I'm sure if there are folks on here who are interested in leading some of the organization there would be plenty of interest in these events from HCRPCA members.

I'm in Dallas as well, but have family in Austin so a trip down there isn't a big deal.

Just moved to Austin

Hey all,
I just moved to Austin, own a 996tt, but didn't bring it down, going to fly back up to Washington State to grab it sometime this spring. Will definitely like to go make introductions at the DE event March 29th. Could someone send me the details?

Are you talking about the Hill Country Porsche Club's Bluebonnet Tour on Mar. 29 or something different? I might have missed it but I'm not clued into a DE event on that date. If you're talking about the Bluebonnet Tour, the details are still coming together. Only thing I know right now is the date. The group will meet up somewhere, usually between 7 and 8am and then head out. The route is not published ahead of time but is distributed at the event. There is a stop for lunch somewhere, after which, most people start to head home but there is also a planned route for after lunch as well for those who want to keep going. Once the details have come together the info will be put up on the hcrpca.org website. Check there if you're interested.

Maybe referring to the DE event at MSR in Cresson, TX on March 29/30? If so, that's not a PCA sponsored event, its Drivers Edge.

I was wondering what indy shops you guys recommend in the Austin area. I've heard of TPWS and was wondering what your opinions are of that place, and if there are any others that you would recommend. Specifically ones that have a PIWIS.

I have previously used Luxury Auto Works for service work. Oddly enough their main page doesn't call out Porsche, but they do handle them: http://www.luxuryautoworks.com/porsche.html

It seems that they have mechanics with the proper training for at least normal Pcar service jobs. The shop is kept very clean and orderly. When I was there, the only other cars in the shop were pretty high end and included a Bentley, a 6 class BMW, and a Mercedes SL.

After being spoiled for a while with the high-end waiting area at the local BMW and Lexus dealerships I was a bit surprised at the sparseness of their waiting area... but maybe by not wasting money there it is a good thing and one of the reasons they can significantly beat the dealerships in price. Of course the local Porsche dealerships waiting area is pretty minimalist there too.

They have several short videos on YouTube, here's one:
. They really do keep the shop that clean.

I have used German Auto Center in North Austin for the last couple of years and they are very reasonably priced as well as specialize in Porsches.

Anyone have more info on the Bluebonnet Tour?

Based on the lack of details other than a "Save the Date" type announcement in last month's Horizons, I'm not sure this is going to come together this year. My co-worker shot an e-mail into the club president yesterday to find out what is going on but we haven't heard anything back yet. It seems pretty likely that no one stepped up to organize the thing which would be a shame since it was so well attended and enjoyable last year. I'll post an update if/when I hear anything.

UPDATE: As expected, HCR president just confirmed no tour leader stepped up so there is no tour this Saturday.

Agreed. This year the club has a new guy in charge of arranging drives so there are many more drives this year, not counting fairly frequent meets for other purposes (like a recent one at Cobb Tuning that was very cool!). There is a "lunch bunch" meet-up today (Thursday the 8th) at County Line BBQ on the Lake at 11:30 if you want to make a connection with them there.
