I Love my 997 but I want a 991, But I Like 997 More..

I am keeping my 997.2 specifically because of the things I DON'T like in the new 991. To me the proportions are off with the new wheelbase. The corporate-common interior changes, while good in some areas, make the 991 have too much in common with every other Porsche model (if I wanted a Panamera, I'da bought one). Electric steering? In a Porsche? Blasphemy!!
The OP should continue to look for a low mileage 997.2 in an S or GTS configuration with the drivetrain he desires.

I also don't like the steering feel in the 991.
Again, just my opinions.

How 'bout a 997 GT3? That may be the way to go for the OP.

agree with marlon. in the same boat. not in love with the 991 way to soft for me. was thinking about a 997.2 but couldn't really justify it because i love my current car. (although 997.2 is a solid upgrade). instead I decided to slap a supercharger on my 997.1S and ride it out until the 992 arrives like sandwedge said.

I actually like the 991 interior, but when I opened the engine deck lid and saw just 2 fans and no engine, I decided it wasn't the car for me. I enjoy turning wrenches too much to own a car like that.

I've been in the same conflicting frame of mind. I love my 2005 Carrera S but I'm envious only of the additional power the new 991 offers. I'm not a fan of the new interior and shifting console or all the tech features that seem to separate the driver from the driving experience. If I really want more power or performance, I guess I'll opt for some kind of upgrade to my current 997.1 - or there again, maybe it's just terrific the way it is.

No disagreements there although I think aftermarket exhaust components on the .2 go a long way towards fixing its shortcomings compared to the .1. Everything else on the .2 is an improvement imo.

There's nothing the 997.1 S does better than the 997.2 S. I had them both. I also had a Cargraphic exhaust on my .2 and it definitely added power you could feel. I wouldn't necessarily call it a fix, other than sound perhaps. My .1 had PSE and I needed to try to replicate it. My exhaust became more pronounced, but not as good sounding as PSE.

Technology is improving at an exponential rate. Porsche is not any different. Look at their push to turn all their car to PDK. With these technological advancements though, I think something gets lost...
Look at the rising value of 993s. I believe that 997s will be treated similarly in the future. Because nothing got lost...
Driving a Porsche should be about the feeling. Of being physically attached to the road. Of that amazing gurgling, babbling symphony coming from the back of your head. Driving.
With each successive generation of 911s, that feeling is somehow being degraded.
No way man. 991? Keep your 997, for as long as you can...

Good thoughts and opinions here.
I'm a former 997 owner, current 991S owner. For a DD, the 991 is superior: more refined, more comfortable. For a weekend "fun car" the 997 may be a better choice, as it is a bit more raw, more communicative, and the power is more than adequate.
My first test drive of the 991 left me cold, but I warmed up to it and now I love it.
