Agreed. Some may disagree with me or think I am crazy, but I actually am running 4-5 gal of 100% ETOH mixed with 92 Octane fuel here in HI. In actuality, even though it says 92 octane, the best we get here is 88, based on independent 3rd party testing. Performance is better in my experience; especially in the top end from 5000-7200 rpm. The engine also feels smoother throughout the RPM.

BTW, while the pump may have a label that the fuel has 10% ethanol it has around 7% to 8%. Refiners have at least up 'til now held back a few percent of ethanol.

The best thing one can do is buy the right octane grade of premium gasoline from a busy station to ensure fresh fuel.

Unless one is in the habit of parking the car up for months and months without any use there's no need to add any fuel additive to the tank. Waste of money and some additives can harm O2 sensors or converters.

in my home state, the oversight body would shut a retailer down if the posted octane levels were found to be in error.

Well unfortunately for us, this will not happen as the "official" repeat test of the Octane level from the same station 2 weeks later yielded a 92 Octane reading...hmmm. Enough time for the oil company to change out the old gas eh ? If they were serious about this, they should have taken the same sample from the same station on the same day that the 3rd party testing was done.

I am lucky and have a station close by that sells 93 octane ethanol free and that is all that I use in my 09 C2S. It doesn't get driven every day and I don't like the ethanol contaminated gas sitting in the tank. Yes, it is a few cents a gallon more, but to me it is worth it.

I purchased a test kit, and all gas I tested locally except from this station tested at 10% ethanol.
