Changing tyres question

Hi all, I want to get rid of the pzero rosso I have on they don't give me a lot of confidence in the wet I have been looking at all the threads on this and it seems that Michelins are the way to go.

My local tyre shop tho said the only n rated tyres they have are the Michelin pilot sport 2's. Are these considered dated by now? They have the super sports but not n rated, n is the speed rating right or is something to do with the rubber compund?

My Q is are pilot sport 2s ok to get now or should I get the super sports?

Also I have 235/35 & 295/30, I was thinking of putting 305s on the rear, this will fit on an 11 inch rim right? I have the stock lobster claws. I might leave the fronts at 235 as pilot sport 2s dont come in 245, only 235 and then jumps to 255. The super sports come in 245 though, but I have read it is stretching it too far on the stock 8 inch front rim.

Michelin tires are fairly well accepted as the most recommended tire, but the cost of a replacement set can be expensive when compared to other brands that offer almost the same ( and in some categories, better) performace for less money. I replaced my stock Michelin tires with Bridgestones and am very happy with them. Tire Rack just happened to be having a sale which didn't hurt my decision making process.

"N" designation on a particular tire means that the tire meets Porsche's tire requirements as far as handling, noise, wear, etc, etc. Not having an "N" tire mounted on your Porsche is not a bad thing. You won't go to Hell, get visited by black helicopters in the night, or have your car repossessed by Porsche.

Stay with 235 on the front with stock wheel widths. The rear wheels can easily accommodate a 305.

I've had Pzeros and PS2s on 2 Porsches (981 and 987) at the same time with roughly the same miles on the tires. The Pzeros provided measurably more turn-in grip and grip under power. I've also had 2 sets of Michelin Pilot Supersports on 2 different 997s (back to back) and neither set were that fantastic.

I'm going with Bridgestone RE-11s next.

I just ordered a set of SS on tirerack tonight. couldn't justify the more than $500 to get back into the PS2's.
Im a Michelin fan for sport tires.

ill give the bridgestones a try next time. What model did you buy?

My C4 had Michelin PS2's on it when i bought it. I couldn't get rid of them fast enough. I use ONLY Michelins on my tacoma and FJ but the PS2's are loud, rough and wear too quickly. If you aren't going to track the car, why use them. Most people like the SS's. I went with Continental DWS and love them. Smooth, Quiet and last much longer, and are considerably less expensive. However, the car is my wife's DD and she never pushes it. I do when she lets me drive it and they have been up to all I've thrown at it.

A few years ago few would dis the PS2. Now that the PSS is out, all the sudden the PS2 falls short. I actually prefer the PS2 over the PSS, although it won't last as long. Still the Pzeros do outperform either Michelin in my experience considering daily road use. But in the end, I've decided to step up to an extreme performance tire and quit messing about with ultra high performance tires which tend to always disappoint me. I want crazy good grip, not just good grip.

Hankook V12's. Great tire for the money. When cold...not super grippy....but when warm....very good tire. Wear is excellent. Going with a new set in front 245's on my Avante's Ruger Mesh.

But it's all about how you feel.

I thought ps2's were far beyond pzero rosso's?

So should I go ps2s or super sports? From the Michelin website the difference seems to be that ps2 305s are zr rated while ss are y rated...

I would recommend you Continental Tyres as they have very good grip in the wet or dry condition, even when worn down to the last couple of month. I oringally purchased these for our Honda Accord V6 Sedan when the original Yokahama tyres finally needed to be replaced. I was immediately impressed with how well the tires performed relative to the Yokahamas. The tires felt more comfortable and performed better in both dry and wet weather. I highly recommend the Continental Tyres and intend to continue buying them for years to come. #ContinentalTyresAFC
