Alcantara?
#2
My GTS has leather...but I did have alcantara in my TT. The seats had the alcantara inserts and I thought they looked great and wear was not a problem. On the other hand the hot, humid weather of Texas took its toll on the alcantara steering wheel - after 16,000 miles, 3 years, it looked pretty beat up and worn - I swapped out to a leather wheel.

There was a thread about Alcantara before.
Personally, I don't like the 70's-looking-suede finish. Given the choice, I would not have it in any car, even for a fraction of the cost. Just a personal preference.

This ^ but mine was an M3 w/ 20K miles and the steering wheel and part of the seats were pretty matted. (In CA I wear shorts a good deal of the time and the perspiration and natural skin oil took a toll in the area on the seat where my skin touched the alcantara.) That said, I believe there are techniques to keep that material in good shape so it shouldn't be a deal breaker. Insofar as how it works, it was grippy, much more so than leather so that is a plus if that's what you're looking for.
